@markalex1,
No, I just heard some really nasty things about Choate. I consider it a good school academically though.

You should really add some schools with higher acceptance rates. I believe that you can really receive as good of an education at St. Mark’s (for example) as you can at Groton (for example). It really just depends on how you use the school’s resources and what classes you take.

Honestly, you DON’T want to have to apply again as a 10th grader. This process can be really draining as you may have or will notice. You definitely don’t want to go through this process a second time. It is very hard to continue on after the initial rejections - speaking from experience.

But ultimately it is your decision, do what you think would be the best path for you. If you think that a boarding school education at one of the top schools is the only education you would feel happy pursuing other than your local option then thats fine. But like neato said, be prepared for rejection.

First I want to say that I don’t believe int he 20% x 5=100% nonsense. That makes no sense whatsoever. So just making that clear. But now to the point of my post. I don’t know how to put this without being lynched by the community at CC. Assuming I apply twice to each of these schools I’m applying to now,I will have filled out 12 applications. So out of those 12 applications I think that ONE school might find it in their hearts to accept me and give me FA. I don’t expect everywhere, and even getting in half the schools I’m applying to would be a great surprise. But I don’t think I’m expecting too much. Assuming I apply twice, each school will read my application twice. So I don’t think its that big of a deal assuming that ONE of my applications will be successful out of TWELVE. If they weren’t, man I really must be an undesirable candidate.

You might want to look at the small, nurturing, utterly ravishing Millbrook School. It is well-rounded and seems frequently overlooked here on CC.

ifax-I understand your point of view, but take it from parents of current bs students-many many kids do exactly what you are planning and get no acceptances.

Search the cc history for last years applications, then see how many posted after March 10th. You will find that a majority of people never re-appear.

I know neato personally, and she is only trying to help. It is not about the school’s “heart” it is about the numbers. It it difficult to be an “undesirable” candidate-when your arent, its just that you werent realistic with the numbers.

Good Luck!
