BU 7year vs. USC vs. UChicago

hey you guys, im having trouble deciding btwn these schools (very different i know)
BU accel. med. prg.
USC (trustee scholarship)
U chicago

Im pretty sure I want to go to med. school, and I realized that BU is an awesome med. school, but Im getting a full tuition scholarship (4years) at USC, and i got into UChicago

from what you know, do you thing being pre-med at USC or UChicago will be a "better" experience interms of difficulty or for med. school acceptance? I dont think im getting ANY money from BU so this makes things really difficult....

BUMP
BUMP
bring up my post...

You are right: the full tuition at USC is hard to beat. Congrats on this award!

This is incredible. I am in the exact same position as you! I got into USC with the full scholarship, Miami HPM, Boston U Accel Med, and U Chicago and I cant decide for my life which.

definetely, take the accelerated med program, b/c u take a place like chicago/cornell, chances are u prob will not become doctors...

BU hands down....no contest

It's not really an accelerated program, but you can apply for U Chicago's med school in your sophomore year.

I'd take BU. The other two are not good enough to pass up the med program.

Personally, I would be torn between BU's med program and a full scholarship to USC. BU's med program is accelerated, and you would finish a year earlier, and without the stress of applying to med school. But it costs over $40,000 a year. Then again, you would have only housing/food to pay for at USC, and if you do well, you could probably get admission into their med school. But this is wishful thinking.
Crudely put, I guess it boils down to a certainty that is expensive, or an uncertainty that is cheaper.

i totally agree!
BU is not giving me anything, no scholarships, nada
and it is going to be a huge burden on my parents, who will also have to pay for my brother's last year in college this coming fall, which will cost another 45,000
i def. dont qualify for Financial Aid at BU but i really wish i could recieve one of those merit based scholarships

its such a dilemna! How much is assurance really worth? Is it worth $112,000? That is more than the vast majority of Americans make in a year. But is it more than a doctor makes? definetly not starting out... what a dilemna, and who wants to have the first few years of your professional life paying off student loans or have their parents work harder than they ever have before?

for those of you who got accepted into BU for the accelerated med program...what were your stats?

my stats are:
780M 730CR 800W (2310)
34 comp. ACT
4.6 W GPA rank 2 out of 705
good public high school in IL

taking APs this year- Bio Spanish English Humangeo, regular physics
national merit commended, AP scholar

really into music, 1st chair at district, state, city youth symphony, sent in a flute CD

one really awesome hospital internship last summer
not that many volunteer hours
my dads a doctor (if that helped)

Hey park5378:
What have you decided? If I were in your situation, I would go for BU's med program....assuming that cost is not a factor. Since you are into music: doesn't BU have an amazing music dept?

well the thing is
i got into an instate 7 year program, which is considerably cheaper (i think 3times as less) and probably not as academically rigorous

i mean, i would like to stay near home and go to the same school with my friends, but i know that BU med school is better than this one, and probably will provide me with more opportunities later on....
i dont know, imin such a dilemma

Wow, congrats! So you have narrowed it down to the two seven-year medical programs? Good for you!
I can sympathize with your situation...you will figure it out. Well, you were considering USC, which I think is far for you as there are no 7 year med programs in California...only two 8 years ones: USC and UCSD. You should do what will help you most in the future. Do research both programs and make a pro/con list.

well actually, i dont really care if its 7 or 8
i would actually prefer 8
i was so crushed to not get into the USC BA/MD program, that was actually my first choice :(
but funny how things work, i know someone in the USC BA/MD, and she told me that she was dying to go to the BU SMED, but didnt get in, while things worked out vice versa for me lol

Personally, I would choose BU's program over USC's program, if given the choice! With so many great hospitals and research institutions in Boston, I could avail myself of these opportunities.
Yeah, you are right how things happen...there must be a reason! Best of luck to you!
