Hi. I was just curious as to what stats ( GPA, SAT, etc… ) the typical student who receives merit scholarships from BU usually has ? My son is a junior and interested in Intl. Relations / Business. He is an A- student in the Inter. Relations program at his high school, 2160 on SAT ( taking it over in May to try to bump it up a bit ), tennis varsity, editor of school paper, a few other stuff. I was hoping that maybe he would qualify for some merit scholarship to help out with the cost of the univer. Seems like a fine place to study at. Good luck to all. My e-mail is mjuron@aol.com Thanks. Marc

This link will explain the different merit scholarships.

Your son's stats put him in the running for a University Scholarship (half tuition), but it's not a done deal.

What seems to be the consensus on merit aid from BU is that stats isn't everything. I had a 2240 SAT/33 ACT, which I don't think it that high, but I received the Trustee Scholarship and am studying IR. I think it more depends on extra-curriculars/the essay, etc.

My S received the half tuition one with slats a little higher. He is currently abroad and a BU IR major. Since he hopes to attend law school we are glad he chose a school that offered merit aid. Good luck.

i received half tuition with 2070 SAT and a 3.6 GPA, but i think it was my extracurriculars that helped me.

i got the trustee scholarship (full tuition) with a 2230 SAT. i think it was really my extracurriculars and essays that helped me.

Hi, my son's stats and level of ECs are very similar to your son's and he got a 1/2 tuition "University Scholars" merit award plus a small "Legacy Scholarship" of $1000/year.

I think his essays, especially his "Why BU" essay, were what won the merit gods over but who knows for sure? He had also reached out via email to the Core Curriculum people early on in his college search and perhaps his demonstration of enthusiasm and knowledge about what BU offers and how it matched his goals and personality may have helped too?

He is turning down Vassar for BU because of the fit, but mom and dad are thrilled because the merit money adds up to $18,500 a year, not too shabby! :)

Your son sounds like a solid candidate at least for a Dean's Scholarship and possibly for more. Good luck!!!
