Does BU have a good business school? (undergraduate)

Is it very competitive? and is it hard to get into?

Is it popular?

I would say we have a pretty good reputation WITHIN the school but outside we tend to get confused a lot with Boston College (due to its great football team and their higher rank). I still love it in SMG though. It is probably one of the more competitive schools to get into next to COM.

The thing I like about SMG is that we get to take business classes on the first day of class and more throughout the years! Instead of taking boring general ed classes for the first two years, those are instead mixed in with our curriculum. So you learn about business as a whole the first year including finance, accounting, marketing, operations etc. Then in your sophomore year you get to take more in depth accounting classes and even an introductory law course.

This allows you to kind of test many fields within business and get a sense for what you really like and in the end concentrate in what you’d like to. Also, our business school has its own career center! It’s really cool because you can get resume critiques, mock interviews, and help finding a job/internship. Take advantage of this resource if you come here! If you have anymore questions, fire away! I’ll be more than happy to answer.

Sorry if I got you confused, but popular as a major and in the school.

and is it harder to get into than most of the majors?

I don’t know if I’d say popular…since you should really be pursuing what you want to do and not whats popular…but to answer your question more quantitatively, there’s around 400-500 STARTING business majors and as the years progress that number grows as people transfer in. Many people also minor in SMG so yes, it is pretty “popular.” If you’re concerned that people will look down upon you just because you’re in SMG, don’t worry about that. People here are so open and you’ll make friends from all the different schools here at BU.

In terms of admission(which is what I think you’re referring to), it’s basically the same as getting into any other school within BU with the exception of CGS(which is easier to get into). As for transferring internally, or from another school, that is beyond my scope of knowledge!

Feel free to ask more or clarify if I didn’t answer your question completely!
