I was previously rejected from BU Engineering last year but am considering applying as a transfer for the Fall of 2010. Right now I’m an honors student at Baruch College (strictly business school) but wish to take a complete turn in my areas of studies. Can anyone tell me what its like doing biomed engineering at BU ENG as opposed to say, being a physics major on the pre-med track at BU CAS? Also any insights on either schools? What the core reqs are like, acceptance rates for each school, professors, etc.?

If it helps, I am an Asian female and I know there is a slight need to balance the ratio of females to males in most engineering schools but I don’t know if this is the case at BU Engineering and I’m not really factoring it in.

Heh… well being a female engineer might not really be that much of an advantage as there are more girls in biomedical engineering than any other engineering discipline. Most biomedical engineers are also pre-med anyways (not me though =P)

Comparing CAS and ENG, ENG is a MUCH smaller school, which is why it is more selective. CAS is the biggest school at BU! I would assume it would be a tad bit easier to get into (not to say that getting in is an easy task). Engineering in general is considered a tough field of study. Pursuing it is no small ordeal and requires a great deal of dedication and commitment. I would be absolutely sure that it is what you want to do.

On the up side - I feel that the engineering resources are terrific. The classes are rigorous, so you get what you pay for.

Also, I have a friend who is also a transfer student from Baruch - so the fact that he got in anyways should be a consoling fact!

really? because I have to declare my major on the transfer app, and if I want to transfer into the engineering school, i’d also have to change majors. what about pre-reqs? are they really different between CAS and ENG?
