@Hardymum I am so very sorry to hear that happened and agree that any information that can be construed as a decision should not be placed on a portal. TESTING should replace Congratulations.
@nyc20grl My son was in contact with his admissions counselor. Admissions counselor contacted him to offer an interview. He had two very specific questions he wanted to ask which were not available online. The information was extremely helpful and actually was why my son decided not to apply for Kilachand honors. @lolog123 touched upon this in a post on (p.67 post 1003). Not that it isn’t a wonderful opportunity but for my son it would interfere with his achieving his goals because of the additional time commitment. We also visited the school twice (we are not local).
@tzarbucks Did you submit your NHRP certificate to BU? If you did that is surprising because it does read as if it is automatic if you are accepted and if you submit the documentation.
High school seniors who are National Hispanic Recognition Program finalists, and are offered admission to BU, will be recognized with a four-year $20,000 tuition Boston University Presidential Scholarship. Applications for admission and all supporting credentials are due by January 3. Applicants must also send a copy of their National Hispanic Recognition Program finalist letter to Boston University by January 3.
@Uni1234 Thank you for sharing that link. So am I correct that they accepted 25% of the applicant pool, but with only 3,400 spots, they expect only 22% of the 3,400 to accept their given spot? I don’t quite understand how the schools figure this since they only have spots for less than 6% of applicants. (3,400/ 60,815)
@paveyourpath@tzarbucks Same thing happened here. The NHRP scholarship was a big factor in applying. Reading the description, I assumed it was automatic if admitted and boy was I surprised when the scholarship denial appeared this morning! It seems like, at a minimum, they should revise the wording on the website to indicate that you are just under consideration but not guaranteed to receive it if accepted. Did anyone on this thread get the scholarship?
Accepted this morning!

@piksla I applied for the NHRP and received the $20K presidential scholarship, around January I received confirmation that my submission of my documents had been received, however I had called earlier to confirm that they had indeed received the documents and they said they had not so I sent them in again, did you receive confirmation of this? Because otherwise I had thought it was guaranteed?
Also got accepted this morning!
Major: History at CAS
3.95 uw GPA, 4.45 w GPA
1400 super-scored (690 r/w, 710 math)
usual ec’s: Orchestra, some volunteering clubs, Treasurer for FHS, FNA,
My essay was meh
@piksla Same here! The wording made it seem like it was automatic. I was real surprised too since I was hoping for that extra $20,000. That scholarship was what was gonna make me choose Boston over Northeastern, but now it’s looking differently since Northeastern gave me that scholarship and BU didn’t. Oh well.
@paveyourpath Yeah I sent them my letter and everything. In the scholarship denial letter, they recognized that I was a finalist. As you can see in the wording, they was nothing that should that it was a competitive scholarship.
@psych201 When I emailed them, they said that they added it to their file. But from the rejection letter they said it was not automatic and that I was not selected. It sucks, but oh well.
Hi and congrats to everyone! I was accepted RD this morning and was just deciphering my financial aid package. I’m just curious, for those that received 30k, 40k, full ride, etc., does that include loans/work study or is it all merit/scholarship?
Accepted with 32.25 ACT and 100.04 GPA.
Accepted: Colgate University, Harvard College (Likely Letter)
Waitlisted: Colby College
Rejected: none for now, but Ivy day is soon so…
I wish everyone the best of luck with the rest of their college decisions!!
“Should you remain interested in Boston University, you may consider the possibility of transferring to BU after two semesters of strong academic work at another accredited college or university. Each year, we enroll students through our transfer admission program, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this option with you.”
Can someone tell me what this message means? Is it a guarantee transfer?
@tsarbucks I verified that they had received the letter way before the deadline and turned in the app by December 1. I wonder if it is worth contacting them? Probably won’t change the verdict but might at least help future applicants.
@piksla Yeah I did the same, except I turned in mine January 1st, but the deadline for the scholarship was the 3rd, so I don’t think it was that. I was thinking about contacting them too just to confirm that the scholarship wasn’t automatic.
