Bu decisions!

When do they come out! What time ? What day ? !

You’re an RD applicant, right? They all come out on April 1st. And the timing is up to admissions, generally.

@Desicollegegal
yes i am. good luck to you :slight_smile:
what major did you apply as ? what do they look at most: gpa/essays/ or sats?
thanks

Haha thanks, but I’m not applying anymore–I withdrew my app just yesterday! I was an RD applicant before I got accepted to my Early Decision School, Tufts University. I was applying as a biochem major, and I think BU places more emphasis on GPA generally.

Good luck to YOU! :)

I am eagerly waiting for BU decisions to come out as well. I applied for the neuroscience major…what about you?

Just chiming in… Last year decisions were out the evening of March 24. Fingers crossed it’s the same time this year, rather than having to wait an extra week until the 1st. :)

Good luck to everybody waiting for decisions!

thanks guys! good luck to you too!
@desicollegegal: nice!!! congrats

well you guys im dying to find out haha.
i applied as bio major.
what are your stats?

Cool…I hope decisions come out early this year too. Good luck to everyone!

@newyorkmydreams: Well, my second choice was biology…I applied as a bio major to schools on my list which don’t have a neuroscience major. My stats are…2290 SAT, 4.26 GPA (my school only calculates weighted…but UW would probably be ~3.8), IB diploma candidate, decent EC’s (only 1 leadership position though), and decent essays. What are your stats like and what other colleges did you apply to?

@runeaglerun12: Did you apply RD as well? If you did, what major did you apply for?

you have really good stats . you’re going to get in. my sat will kill me…

Thanks…I’m feeling really down right now because I just got two rejection letters on the same day. Oh well…I guess life goes on. I don’t think BU places that much emphasis on sat scores though, so you probably still have a good chance of getting in. I think GPA and essays are more important.

AGHHHHHHH I thought it was mid March >=(

now I have to wait even more…

I knew applying early would’ve been a better idea but everybody kept telling me that RD is better

GPA and essays are better indications of who you are (SATS need to disappear as they serve no purpose whatsoever, besides making you spend money for collegeboard)

You guys are so nice!! Good luck. I hope i get in /:

BU looks for the overall well rounded student

Newyorkmydreams is completely right-BU does look at the big picture. I attended this admission event at BU last spring where, after an info sesh in the auditorium, groups of students and parents went into classrooms and received two old BU applications and compared the two candidates and said who we think should get in and why after reviewing them for ourselves. We then discussed this with an admission counsellor. From the impression I got, BU really does care about the whole package. I remember one of the candidates had amazing test scores, but his grades rapidly declined senior year, and the counsellor said he probably wouldn’t have gotten in because of that. That same kid had a supplement essay saying pretty much, “I want to go to BU 'cause my dad went and he said he had a great time because Boston is such an awesome college town” and that was pretty much the whole essay. The other applicant had average, slightly above average scores (in the 600s, mid to high) and was really well rounded, with good essays, extra currics, and evaluations, and she said he would have gotten. Hope this helps ease the worries and provides clarification:)

Oh yeah, I know what you are talking about iluvhorses. I went to a BU information session and we did the same thing (comparing potential candidates). I think it was one of the most interesting information sessions I have been to so far.

Wow, that sounds like a pretty cool info session. I admit I skipped those - I’m that annoying legacy student that already knows the school by heart. ;)

But I’m applying as an undecided major to CAS - probably going to end up doing psychology or sociology or something with foreign languages. Or maybe all three!

Hope everyone else here gets some good news in about a month’s time - it’s a great school in a great city for sure. :)

@iluvhorses
thanks for giving me hope!! :slight_smile:
yeah that sounds like a good school
have you guys visited?
what major did you guys apply as ?
how big is the campus ?
also,
i applied as a bio major and i also applied for the college of general studies (like i just checked that box )

Hey guys, just glancing over some of your posts. I was in the same exact position in November/December when I was waiting for my ED decision. But I must say, BU does not lie when they say that they most definitely look at the big picture when determining your admission decision. My SAT scores were pretty good, but not astronomical and my GPA was about average (3.41 unweighted). They really look at demonstrated interest (attending info sessions and such) and your personality throughout your essays. I am now a declared biology major in the College of Arts and Sciences ready to begin in Fall 2012. I had my doubts of my admission decision and was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised but I wish best of luck on your admission decisions to you all and hope to see you all next school year. We are a Terrier family after all.
And let me know if you have any questions on the accepted students process.
Have a lovely day. C:

How can i show interest? Can i send in a letter of interest or a rec? Pleas help ! I love bu:(

Ways to show interest are to go visit the school as well as every information session in your area. BU visits my school once a year during the beginning of the year for a college fair. The representative that visited was the same woman who was in charge of admissions in my county. Junior year when I realized BU was my top school, I went to the college fair, signed my name on the information sheet they give out every time you go to some sort of information (that way they can keep track of who has been interested) and talked to the representative. Make sure you introduce yourself because they then might recognize your name when they’re reading your application. In September there was a BU information session (similar to the one they have at the campus tours) at a hotel near me. I attended that and then at the end I went up and introduced myself again to the same representative. I asked her a few questions and specifically asked her if next time I see her I could bring in a DVD portfolio of a few of my video projects because I was applying to the communications school for tv/film. Even though she said there’s a chance no one will be able to watch it during the admissions process I still brought it in anyways. When I saw her at the college fair earlier this year I gave her the DVD I made specially for BU with my full name and high school in big letters on the front. When I saw her this time to give her the DVD she told me that she recognized me from the information session at the hotel a month earlier (even though there were at least 250 potential applicants at that session). I don’t know if she or anyone else actually watched my DVD, but I do know that she had the DVD in her purse and must have seen it whenever she opened or took it out from her purse with my name in big letters on top. I’m sure when she read my application, by that point she knew my name out of all the other applicants from my area and knew that BU was my top choice.

Sorry for writing an essay on my story, but based on what I have learned I believe that this is a great way to show that you’re interested. If you have any special talents (like me with film) make sure you let them know that and possibly do more than the typical candidate and make a portfolio of some sort to highlight that talent.
Also every chance you get go to the information sessions, fill out the information cards and talk to the admission representatives and introduce yourself. Even though the constant introductions may seem annoying, that’s what they look for to show that you’re interested!

I’m very excited to go to BU in the fall and I wish you all the best of luck!! Hope to have you all join me and the class of 2016!
