Essays: Pretty good in my opinion. My general Common App essay was all about personality in execution, so I tried to fit as much of my sassy and sarcastic style as I could in there. Hope the admissions officer laughed haha. I also applied for Trustee, so I wrote an essay responding to the prompt of whether art is a lie. I wrote about how realism is seldom perfectly achievable through any medium, but despite that, art is neither a fabrication nor a lie but rather an exaggeration of the truth, as presented by the creator of the work. I related it to popular sympathetic villainism and the portrayal of the flawed hero, definitely my best one. Then my “why I want to go to BU” essay which was practically nothing. I just talked about how I’m a creative person who feels stunted in an area that does not promote my creativity and as such I sought to attend BU as it would allow me creative freedom and the liberty of exploring every avenue of myself and what I want to do in my life.
Teacher Recommendation: One from my Spanish teacher of two years. She started and submitted on the deadline so I’m not sure of the quality. My director and acting teacher of three years who is a major perfectionist. She wanted it to be as good as possible, so I’m sure she put everything she could into it.
Counselor Rec: Nope. I’m an ex IB student, I dropped out last year so this year I have a new counselor who barely knows me. She’s a bit of a fuddy duddy, so I figured that wouldn’t be a good idea. I miss my old counselor, but that’s all I missed from IB haha
Additional Rec: An author friend of mine. He is currently in the process of creating an audio book dramatization of his novel, and he approached my school’s theatre company looking for talent. He auditioned many of our students and selected me to voice the main character. Working with him has been my first real experience outside of school and community acting, my first foray into voice acting, and a great network building opportunity.
Interview: My audition went pretty well. I auditioned for Clay Hopper and presented two contrasting modern monologues. One from I Hate Hamlet and the other from Dog Sees God. I skipped lines on the first, but I kept going. He said I was excellent and choose not to workshop with me. After, I told him about how I do theatre and choir and he asked me why I wanted to go to BU. I pretty much said what was in my essay, as that is how I genuinely feel. He agreed that that’s one of the number one reasons a person would want to attend school there. Then I showed him my portfolio (if you work in other aspects of theatre besides acting, this is a good idea to spice up your interview) in which I had writing samples from both a play and novel I’m working on, and a publicity card for the novel and audio book I was associated with. This gave us plenty to talk about in terms of me as a person and what I like to do. After that, we were done.</p>

That interview is really where they can get a feel for how passionate you are. Don’t let the nerves take over, show them you, show them why they should want you there.</p>

Honestly, I applied knowing that I had a chance but not a guarantee. My academics aren’t perfect, but they fell within most of the averages. My primary concern was the audition and interview, as that was the post that I recognized having control over. That’s important, the sooner you realize that, the better off you’ll be.</p>

What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: Tried to make myself sound as desirable as possible (that’s the point right? Haha) But seriously, I pretty much focused on my essays and perfecting them once I got my objective information in. I had them proofread by multiple peers and modified each till I was completely satisfied.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My interview. I felt comfortable, relaxed, and confident when I walked into that room. I left feeling that I made an impression and I did the best that I could at the time.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: First acceptance or hearing back of any kind. I applied to UCLA while I was waiting, but I’m not waiting to see those results.</p>

<p>to answer your questions: the bathrooms at bu are fine. i live in warren (the main freshmen dorm at bu). it’s a standard bathroom – 3 stalls, 3 showered, lockers, sinks.
also, pretty much everyone goes out into the city on weekends. a lot of people either go off campus to parties at other colleges or to go somewhere in boston (shows, dinner, etc.)</p>

<p>While I do not know specifically. I do know it was a relatively low number(on acceptances), BU I think has about a 35-40% acceptance rate under the ED program. For my school(which is number 40 in the country), only 4/18, including myself, got in.</p>
<p>Last year BU ED had about 2000 ED applications and accepted 50% according to the BU website. </p>

<p>@AustinJG Right but all I see is the money offered via a Boston University Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and Federal Work Study. No merit based scholarships are mentioned.</p>
