Bu financial aid- please help

Hi! I was recently accepted as a transfer student from Fall 2017. I have yet to receive a financial aid decision, but my deposit deadline is quickly approaching so I’m trying to gather as much info as possible so I can create my own guestimate. Could those of you with a $170-200,000 household income please share how much financial aid you received? Although my parents make a decent amount, they will not be financing my education. I already know I’m going to have to appeal because there’s no way I’m going to get nearly enough. But if those of you with similar incomes could share, I would really appreciate it

My parents make around the same and I was only offered loans because my efc was 63k

If your parents can afford to pay but refuse to pay BU will not give you any need based grants, only unsubsidized loans. An appeal would be a waste of time.

You will not be able to afford BU and you will have to go elsewhere.

@TomSrOfBoston it’s not that they’re ‘refusing’, they just can’t afford it. I come from a family of 6, so there are still other kids to put through college and they have to pay pretty hefty mortgage apparently. Does BU consider those factors?

If your siblings are in college now that will be a factor. if noti n college it will not matter. The fact that your parents have a hefty mortgage was a choice they made, it will not be considered. What does the BU NPC show for your EFC. You should have run that before applying.

@TomSrOfBoston I did use the NPC, however I was told by someone in the financial aid office not to rely on it too heavily. The NPC put me at an EFC of about 50,000

If anything the NPC would underestimate your EFC is what she probably meant.

My parents don’t make anywhere near what yours do- about $120,000, and I got $40k in grants a year, so expect to get a lot less than that. No matter what, you’ll be on the hook for AT LEAST $20k/yr. Pretty much your only choices to not have to pay exorbitant student loans are to win the lottery or get emancipated or married and refile the FAFSA
