BU financial aid

Hi, I applied to BU as a transfer. My GPA was a 3.33. I looked at my financial aid and they only offered me a 2500 Stafford loan. Is this unheard of? My EFC was only 4000, and BU is a 42k a year school! I have no idea how I could get 40k to pay for it...

BU is not known for being generous with their financial aid.

Because we want to recognize academic excellence, Boston University considers academic performance when awarding University need-based grant and offers a wide variety of merit awards,** some of which cover full tuition. See Grants and Scholarships for information on merit awards.

Although we hope that families will be able to make decisions regarding where a student will attend based on academic programs and other educational considerations, we understand that it may be important for them to compare awards from different institutions. Because costs and components of aid awards are different (e.g. grant, loan, work), comparisons should be made carefully. We recommend that you use the College Board's site to facilitate an accurate comparison of awards.

Northstarmom - I've heard that as well (from the BU forum) - I guess my family was VERY lucky.

My twin bro received $38,635 in grants, a small loan (~$3,000) and a $2,000 work study - only $3,400 left in tuition and room/board. My bro is a CFA student, so art supplies with run $1,500-$2,000 a year, but he received a $1,000 BP Scholarship, so that will help.

Even though I am not going to BU, I received $34,000 in grants and a loan ($5,000) and $2,000 work study. Like I said, my family was very lucky.

Crypto,
Congrats on the good deal BU gave you and your brother. My guess is that your good luck was due to having the stats that BU greatly wanted. :)

BU really is scanty in their financial aid. They only give me $8 thousands dollars (4k of which is loans! and the other 4k is federal grant). I was appaled by it, Boston College offer me $42k, Holy Cross with $42k, but BU only $8K !!! Goodness! I dont blame them though, their endownment is concentrate in building the schools. BU have everything, Med, Law, Engineer, and etc. They are like NYU, they dip into their endownment to build the quality of their school. SIGH, but that mean few financial aid for the rest of us.
