So I've already applied to all of these schools (BU, Fordham, & NEU), and I'm now just trying to figure out which is going to be the best for me. I'm looking to major in Finance/Accounting.

BU: Applied regular decision, will hear back April-ish.

Fordham: Applied early action, got an 'early acceptance email' on Dec. 1. Very prompt acceptance, which is reassuring.

Northeastern: Applied early action and got deferred. Will hear back April-ish.

My class rank is in the top 10% of my class
SATs are 1330/1980 (CR: 610; M: 720; W: 650)
GPA is 3.9 (weighted) on 4.0 scale

As well as minor interest as to my chances of even getting into BU and NEU, how do all of these three schools compare as far as their business programs, especially as far as the Finance and Accounting divisons?

I am slightly concerned about the Rose Hill campus at Fordham due to it being in the Bronx - is this a valid concern? I heard the campus itself was very nice. I do love Boston though. Would Fordham offer more intern opportunities due to the proximity to NYC?

^^I disagree. My S just graduated from Fordham’s business school. He had a wonderful experience, got a great education, had excellent internships and he is now in a top grad school in his field (accounting). He loved the location of the school and the fact that the school had a beautiful traditional campus with easy access to Manhattan. The Bronx has shopping, bars, restaurants and as long as you exercise common sense meaning don’t walk around alone and drunk at 2AM (which is important in any urban setting) you will be fine.

I would consider the following factors:
-Where do you want to eventually work. I would favor Fordham if the answer is NYC and I’d favor the other schools if your answer is Boston. Each school will have more contacts and internship opportunities in the city in which it is located.
-What size of school are you looking for? Fordham is mid-sized and the other schools are large.
-Do you have a preference for a Catholic or a non-sectarian school? Fordham has a sizable liberal arts core curriculum which I’m guessing is bigger than the other two schools you are considering (but you need to check).
-Do you want a distinct campus? Or do you prefer a school be in the heart of the city?
-Are you interested in a coop program? If so Northeastern should be strongly considered.
-If you get merit aid at any school, that might be factor in as well.

When you know all your options, I’d try to visit the schools once again on accepted students day before making a final choice. Good luck.

LOL…I love all the boo birds who like to trash Fordham. They know not what they do.

Gabelli School at Fordham is first rate and has new digs and gets kids amazing internships. Plus Fordham’s Business School has a Beijing campus.

Both BU and Northeastern are urban esque, like NYU. Fordham (Rose Hill) is a stellar gothic campus on green leafy acres. Division I sports.

In the end, its a personal decision. Visit all of them and decide. But I lean strongly for Fordham.

Also, kids get internships in Boston from Fordham as well. Faculty helps with that. MANY Fordham kids go to grad school at Harvard, BU, BC, Northeastern.

As for chances, look through section C of the Common Data Set for each school to see how your stats compare. Of course, that doesn’t tell the whole story since they look at other factors as well. One of the section C tables tells you how important each factor is in the decision.
What is your unweighted GPA? Did you take AP courses?

I’m not entirely sure what my unweighted GPA is, but I think it’s around 3.7 or 3.8. I took AP Chem in 10th grade, AP Calc in 11th, AP English currently in 12th, and I might be taking a class at Dartmouth (I go to high school just next door so we are affiliated) in the Spring as well.

Debate team 11th & 12th (captain 12th), varsity baseball 10th-12th (probably captain this year), 2 years of work experience and counting, in my school’s Honors Program (write a ~25 page thesis, 100hrs of community service over HS career, etc.), varsity football & state championship in 10th, and math team in 11th.

I personally would go for Northeastern, in fact I’m applying for RD. Northeastern has a great co-op program allowing you to get more finance experience through internships. It’s also in Boston which hosts a great financial district (so i’ve heard).

outside of the handful of national undergrad biz schools (Wharton, MIT, Ross…), all others are very local. If you want to work in Boston, then attending a Boston college with a good b-school is a no-brainer. If you want to work in the New York area, Fordham is excellent. But I would not attend Fordham and plan to head to Boston later. Yes, it can and does happen, but it will just be harder.

Btw: not too late to toss an app at Boston College as well.
