After much deliberation, I've narrowed down my list of schools to Boston University, The Johns Hopkins University, and Northwestern University. I'm thinking about majoring in biomedical engineering, and all three of these schools have great programs for that major. SO... I have a hard decision to make. Yuck.

The problem is the only school that I've visited is JHU. I probably won't be able to visit BU or Northwestern before I have to make the decision. I'm from Florida, so the weather change will be kind of drastic for me, but I'll acclimate I guess.

Financial aid is an issue, too. I would get about half tuition for BU ($20-something thousand), $4000 at JHU, and $7500 at Northwestern.

Basically, I've heard horror stories about JHU, and I'm getting more of a deal from BU (half tuition, guaranteed paid research, etc.). On the other hand, JHU is JHU. Northwestern is still an option too.

JHU and NU would be really hard to turn down. I would go to those universities if you can afford them. I think the extra money is worth it, personally, but if you are truly poor, it's not worth going in a $100k+ debt after college when you could go to a decent school like BU.

The half-tuition University Scholarship at BU is about $15K, still a nice chunk of change. At JHU I think you have to apply for BME after a year or two--- you don't start out majoring in BME. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Why not post this question on the forums for each school?

Whatd ya think of JHU when you visited? I wouldnt trust these "horror stories" Are you deadset on BME?? Because Boston, Hopkins and Northwestern offer much more than just that...

Good luck my fellow Floridian and congrats on getting into three great schools

What horror stories you heard about JHU ... other than the neigborhood? I have a student there this year (PoliSci) who is having a great time; and another one going next year for BME.

JHU is so much more highly regarded than BU, if I could afford it I would go. You will have much better, any many more, career options. I don't know about NU for BME, but it's also a MUCH better school than BU.

I hate it when people make such gross generalizations. Hopkins is not is tbe middle of a horrible ghetto. Have you ever been there, or are you just repeating hearsay?
