BU Housing

"Hey do you think if I sent in my residence and housing form, and put my first choice but then 4 completely ridiculous choices that are typically saved for upperclassmen that I would get top choice? like put warren first then all brownstones or something? lol"

No. If they can't fit you in any of your choices, then they'll just put you wherever they want; however, there's little chance that you won't get into Warren and there's a small chance that you can get a brownstone (my girlfriend got one as an incoming freshman).

My S lives in Warren this year as a freshman and is staying there as a sophomore. Location, location, location. He and a floormate are getting a corner double, which is larger than a normal double. From his room right now you can look down Comm Ave. and see the Citgo sign. It's am amazing view. The food is excellent, and he can practically fall out of bed into his classes.

I KNOW! Thats mainly why I want warren... I am going to CAS and it will be closer to most of my classes... Do you think they take that into consideration when they place you in a dorm? like, what college you are attending?

i'm thinking about making the Hojo my first choice and the towers second.

I put Shelton as my 1st choice....

peppercody: They def take that into consideration. When u fill out the housing survey, it states which school u will be attending so that the adcoms can (hopefully) try to place u according to proximity to classes. My advice would be to send in ur housing form ASAP if u already know where u want to live. On the survey, u can list ur 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th choices of housing.

I will be attending next year and what do you think will be the best place for me? I am in CAS and I think location is key. I just really don't like noise....I don't really care about being near all the parties. I would assume the Towers are my best bet? Though the backdoor site says "noise travels fast" and there are no study rooms on the floors...is this ever really a problem???

I am now actually leaning towards 575 comm ave. It has air-conditioning and black-out curtains. Has anyone every lived here? Most of the rooms seem to be triples so are they larger to fit everyone or are they really uncomfortable? Best of all, each room has a private bath! And is not having a dining hall really annoying? Where do ppl usually go to eat?

How large are the closets in West Campus and Warren? Does anyone know?

are the dorm rules really strict?

This made me chuckle. DS lived in West Campus dorms for two years. As a CFA major the location was perfect. If you're looking for large closets, you won't find them in most dorms. Pack light, plan to fold whatever you can and put it in under bed boxes. The closets are small.

Rack Raisers are the best way to go in case you want more closet space and choose to live in a large dorm. I am a guy, and even for me, the space is tight. I got some 25 inch rack raisers on my bed allowing me a ton of extra room. The sell for $90 bucks on the internet and directly from BU.

do a good number of freshmen live in Shelton or is it completely dominated by sophomores/juniors?

Since I have some very good friends there this year, I am there all the time. There are a handful of freshman there, but you said it, mostly sophomores and juniors. In fact, when I went to housing last week (for current students), Shelton was filled to capacity which leads me to believe that there will be little to no freshman living there next fall unless you choose to live on the specialty floors, I believe theres a writers floor and an engineering floor in Shelton.

hmmm. i wanted Shelton because I visited the towers/warren and they were way too cramped for me. plus i want a fairly quiet environment. but i don't want to live somewhere where there won't be any freshmen.

I can say from experience, that you will seldom find quiet at Warren or West. The size of the rooms at West and Warren are almost exactly alike, and have the same layout (bed, desk etc.) The Towers is kind of odd in that you sleep just inches away from your roomate, I dont know I thought this was a little weird. If you want Shelton, you should at least put it as number one, there's always a chance that spots open up during the summer for freshman and the housing office randomly places them there. There wont be too many freshman there but believe me, a few weeks after you meet your group of friends, THEY will be wishing they lived elsewhere.

I don't know. I loved Warren and absolutely hated Shelton with a passion.

why'd you hate shelton? i thought its rooms were better than warren.

Most of Shelton's rooms are suites: usually a double and a tripple that are attached by a small doorway (some are two doubles). I lived in a double with a tripple attached. The bathroom was in my room, so everytime someone on the other side needed to use the bathroom, they had to go through my room, which means no privacy whatsoever. I remember being sound asleep one night and being woken up by a series of random people entering my room to use the bathroom (my sutiemates friends). The rooms are a bit bigger, but the dining hall is horrendous (IMHO...some love it, but I've only eaten there three times and will never go back) and it is a pain to get your packages.

what about specialty residences? do you recommend specialty residences for freshmen? and bay state brownstones? what are those like?
