BU Major admission

I applied to Boston Uni. ED as a biology major. When I went on the tour, I found out that they do not put majors into a factor on your chance of admission (for example people who go for undecided won’t be at a disadvantage etc). I am currently taking APBio right now and my grade is disgusting. Because I am going for a bio major, will they emphasize my biology grades heavily? If so, will the major you choose have an impact on chance of admission? I am worried sick. I know that they said that they don’t emphasize majors as your chance of admission, but they said that for UNDECIDED majors. So just wondering if the same still applies for those who actually chose a major. This school is my dream school.

please lmk asap  tysm

I would say, honestly, that since you’re going in as a Bio major and this is your Bio grade it will have some impact on your chance of admissions, but I really don’t think it will be the be all, end all of your application (as in, this one issue isn’t going to completely ruin your chances). How does the rest of your application look compared to this?

Tbh im not too sure about my stats. My sat is 1400, gpa 93, income bracket is low, I’m first generation, I have lots of EC and leadership positions. Im just worried having BIO as my major. They said to send in senior year grades and my current bio grade is a 75, while all my other grades are super high (including apcalculus and that’s like one of the hardest classes ever smh) I know I can bring up my APBIO grade, but I just need time and I really do not want to be deferred.

AP Calc (and a good grade in it), your GPA, ECs/Leadership positions, and first generation are definitely working in your favor. BU will also probably understand to some extent that AP Bio is a very hard AP, and students may stumble a little bit in it first quarter. I’m not an admissions rep, so I can’t predict what the decision is going to be, but good luck!

sheesh this made me feel so much better. Thank you so much :))

No problem! Glad I could help
