bu or brandeis

these are the 2 schools i have narrowed it down to. i am a transfer applicant and have been accepted to both. in terms of name and PRESTIGE (really important for me) and in terms of how i will look to dental schools (my future grad plan), which is better?

brandeis---higher rank

BU is cool too

why is prestige so important

i dont KNOW...... he wants it

actually, if it's between BU AND BRANDEIS. for PRESTIGE, it REALLY doesnt matter too much. I think both schools have the same fame level. i mean, it's not like Harvard v. U. of Miami............

Check the dental school admit rates at both. I know that Brandeis has a really good med school admit rate.

Those two schools are completely different. If you love the busy life of a city and need ton to do all the time, you will hate Brandies. If you love a quiet atmosphere and need a really tight-knit community, you will hate BU. Grades are huge for dental admissions and if you won't flourish in one the environments, what difference is prestige when you gpa stinks because you're miserable all the time? Simply pick the environment that fits you best and you will do fine.

If you do well at either (3.5 or better along with good DATs), you'll get into dental school. HOWEVER, BU has a top dental school, so if you want to do some research, or cozy up to the faculty there, that may give it the edge.

um actually bu doesnt hav that great of a dental school....however i think bein at brandeis i get the best of both worlds (on the weekdays i get to study hard and chances are i will hav chances for more group study since ill see most ppl on day to day basis then on the weekend i can go to boston and experiecne the city).....but im more concerned about grades and i heard bu has grade deflation....so im leanin more on brandeis (and brandeis got an actual castle in which students can dorm in later in the years!)

Brandeis is a great school. We visited spring break & it is one of my daughter's top choices. As far as dental schools go, I am a practicing dentist (Penn grad) and BU's postdoctoral programs in periodontics and endodontics are among the finest in the world. Still, if it were me, I would go to Brandeis for the undergraduate environment and worry about dental school later.

My son will be going to Brandeis this fall. I agree with much that's been said. They are both good schools and if you do well in either you will get into dental school. But I do think that Brandeis is considered more selective and prestigious in my own person expereinece and when talking to friends. But they are very different cultures and environments. I fully agree with bost88 that Brandeis has a much more intimate feel and the kids are very motivated, oriented to learning and intellectual growth. It is a quiet suburban campus although there seems to be a very active social scene on campus and many kids hang around on the weekends. Many kids also take the shuttle into Boston or Cambridge on the weekends also so there definitately is that option and I think that my S will end up doing both at different times. But BU is IN the city and offers a much more city-intense experience and that is important to some people: walking or taking a short T ride to Kenmore square, Fenway or downtown.

bump bump bump need more opinions even though u guys have been doing good with ur posts so far

queenskillers:

for prestige, BU and Brandeis are not that different. Ask a random person on street if he/she knows these 2 universities, i bet he/she would say :"Where is that?" neither of them has a HUGE name. so, go over prestige, and pick a school that u feel confortable in.
