Here’s the deal:

I’m an international student. I’ve been accepted at CMU for chemical engineering and BU for pre-med. In BU, I was granted a half scholarship

My future plans are mostly directed towards medicine, but I’m still not 100% sure, so in case I want to change majors, which would be a better university?

Also, which city (Boston or Pittsburgh) in your opinion would be better for me as an international student?

Boston for sure, I am an international student myself. I visited last summer and never felt so comfortable in my life. Boston is so cosmopolitan, you see people of every color, no discrimination here. Very easy to get around in boston. It’s also pretty safe, even at night. I come from Malaysia and I was so happy that they even have malaysian restaurants in Boston woo! Boston is THE TOWN for international students you will feel comfortable.

However I think CMU’s reputation is better than BU, if money matters to you then go to BU, the pre-med program is pretty awesome at BU as well. BU is still a well respected school, and its in right smack in the middle of one of the best college towns in the world, if not THE BEST college town.

I would go to BU, just because its a great school in a great city!

Boston is better for international students generally. If BU is substantially cheaper and money matters, then you should go with the money.

I can’t answer how you personally rate chemical engineering at C-M.

I was having the same problem, but I turned down CMU chiefly because of a financial problem.
Although they offered me about 20k, i still had to pay 30k or even more a year.
since im a BME major (of which BU has a good program), i decided to go to BU

Since you’re in a BU forum, responses are likely biased towards BU. Go check out what people have to say in the CMU forum. If you want my opinion, I’d go for BU!

haha gingeralelover if he goes to the CMU forum they are just going to say pick CMU like we are saying pick BU.

I can’t for sure say whats a better decision since at this point its prestige vs. money. Boston is definitely a better location than Pittsburgh its VERY open to international students. On the other hand, CMU has well regarded programs and is considered one of the top universities in the nation (not saying that BU isn’t).

Premed is AWESOME at BU and you will go through a VERY INTENSIVE track.
