I applied to a bunch of these BA/MD programs last fall, and I recently heard back from BU about an interview. However, I also got accepted to Harvard early and it would be really hard to turn down harvard for bu (if i get in). I am not sure if I should spend $200 dollars to fly up to Boston to interview at BU even though i doubt i'll go there.

can any of you guys help me out? should i go and interview, just to experience boston in the winter or keep my options open even though i probably wont attend there?

congrats on harvard. i applied EA nd got deferred. i also applied to bu's ba/md [havent recieved word yet- have fingers crossed]. do u know you want to go to harvard?... well then i guess there's no point in spending money to interview at bu... plus you said that you applied to a "bunch" of these ba/md programs... since im guessing you are a REALLY smart kid... you are probably going to get ALOT more interview requests... so if i were u, i'd just send in my deposit for harvard and relax the rest of senior year... god that would be amazing... but i mean... if you wouldn't mind passing up harvard for a bu/or any other program... THEN GO TO bu for the interview... i guess it all depends... u gave me the impression that u want to go to harvard really bad... so then go there... u really cant go wrong.. loll...thats my best advice... hope it helps

that's awesome you have such a great backup plan - harvard undergrad. if you go to harvard you might get into much better med schools than BU. of course, you'd have to work hard during undergrad and on the MCAT. if you want to have a lot more free time and relaxation during college, go to BU. if med school reputation matters to you, and you're willing to deal with being premed in college, go to harvard. if you want to get into a really competitive residency program, the reputation of your medical school will matter a lot, and BU's name could hurt you. you can still get into competitive residency programs if you go to BU, but you'll need a little more on your resume to overcome BU's lesser prestige. on the flip side, it is possible that if you go to harvard, you may succumb to the pressure, burn out from the competition, and get into really bad medical schools or not get into medical school at all. in that case, it would have been much better to go to BU in the beginning.

theneel: yea, I'm facing a similiar dilemma...got into Yale EA, and I got an interview at BU as well. When I first found out about Yale, I was so ecstatic. However, I've given it some thought and I think that I'd really love to go to a good med program. I don't want the stress of applying to med school interfering with my academic and extracurricular pursuits at all, but that's just me.

I definitely think that you should go for the interview. It's always, always a good idea to keep your options open. At the very least, you will have gained valuable interview experience that will help you later if you decide to go to Harvard. You'll also have that comfort going into Harvard knowing that you were already accepted into medical school...you just have to do it again :)

in case u guys were interested, i just booked my plane ticket today. even though i still highly doubt that ill go to bu, i figured that id get valuable experiences... a med school interview, boston in the winter (to see if i can take it, coming from Knoxville, TN), another visit to harvard, and i can meet some of my friends in colleges up there.

Personally, if I were you, I'd go with Harvard. With Harvard, you're bound to get accepted to any medical school, and if you decide that medicine's not your thing, you can change majors - and Harvard's pretty much top notch for the vast majority of its majors.

But then again, BU's Medical School is in the top 25 in the nation....
