Essays (rating 1-10, details):
common app- talked about my background and how I made a lot of sacrifices to get a good education for myself like living alone for a year in eighth grade and moving away from my parents in high school but it wasnt a sob story, ultimately i made sure to make them know that I made my decisions on my own and stuck with them and make it interesting and funny- i did get a private college counselor so (10/10)
supplemental essay: i started off talking about how bu was one of the first universities to admit women and that as important to me because it shows that they are supportive of female leadership or something like that… (8/10)
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: ap lit teacher idk if he really likes me im tardy to his class a lot but I contribute a lot and leads in the class, tbh i should’ve gone with my apush teacher cause his son goes to my karate so he sees me a lot there (7/10)
Teacher Rec #2: ap bio love him and we have conversations about martial arts and college and bio all the time (8/10)
Counselor Rec: haha idk she thinks well of me but i kind of dont like her so idk if she knows that (7/10)
Additional Rec: my outside recommendation should be really good like cause shes the volunteer coordinator for my organization, known me for over 3 years and worked with me on a lot of projects (9/10) she told me that she made sure to emphasis my leadership and decision-making along with dedication to the organization and work-ethic
Interview: didn’t get one
Other
State (if domestic applicant): California
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: competitive pubic
Ethnicity: asian
Gender:female
Income Bracket: 200k+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none…? I’m from an affluent beach city near LA… I guess like I moved from Shanghai to California when I was seven so I had to adapt fairly quickly
Reflection: I almost forgot that I applied so i was pleasantly surprised that I got in. In hindsight I was pretty lucky considering that BU is a relatively hard school to get in, especially for business, but it was one of my targets
Strengths: ACT, essay
Weaknesses: typical extracurriculars and GPA
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: tbh i have no clue but maybe my supplemental essay?
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
rejected- Upenn, washu(i really didnt put effort in though, didn’t submit any supplementals)
accepted- syracuse with 20k/year, drexel, university of washington
General Comments: practically no financial aid as expected from my disqualified FAFSA… BU is a backup to NYU so i might go anyways
