BU RISE 2017 (Boston University RISE summer program)

well… got rejected

@kjake2000 Same, it’s okay.

For anyone that was accepted, could you post your stats and some of your ECs to give us a reference of what kind of students BU RISE looks for?

Just for some reference, here are my stats:

SAT: 1560 (17/24 on essay)
PSAT: 1480 (220 selection index)
Unweighted GPA: 3.87
Weighted GPA: 4.11
I took AP Biology and AP Environmental Science in my sophomore year and am currently taking AP Physics 1, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, AP US History, and AP English. I’ve gotten A’s in all my math and science courses thus far and have only gotten B’s in English.

Regarding extracurriculars, I am the design lead for a robotics team that earned second place at the world championships last year, and I was the mentor of a World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Elementary School team that made it to the national level in that year. I’ve also volunteered at a local summer camp where I spent worked six hours a day, five days a week for six weeks teaching kids robotics. I mentioned all of this in my essays, and I got a letter of rec from a teacher I’ve known for almost two years that I’m pretty good friends with, so I’m assuming those were good too. I selected Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering as my subjects of interest.

I know for a fact I turned in my stuff on time since I got a completion receipt (even though it was last minute), so I’m a little surprised as to why I wasn’t accepted. Does anyone know why I might’ve been rejected?

@doglover12 Whoa your stats are quite impressive, I can’t really say anything cuz I got into practicum not internship. But I wonder why you would be rejected…?

@talkingtrees I applied to internship as a first choice and got into practicum as second

Does anyone know of anyone who did the Practicum track before? I would appreciate some details about the program and how it compares with the internship track.

@doglover12 Did your letter state explicitly that you were rejected? I only got the letter stating they were still trying to match me with a professor…

@doglover12 Also, one factor that may have led to the decision was your personal statement. Personal statements are usually weighted the most in these applications to see if you are genuinely interested in research.

@lanpace there’s a YouTube video of somebody who went to practicum last year, you can search it up

my stats are
34 ACT
1470 PSAT (219 index)

3.88 UW GPA
4.15 W GPA

Captain of three major clubs in school
Won many regional level awards

Was rejected

just got accepted for internship!

@bobhello123 My letter said there wasn’t any placement available for me in RISE, but they would put me in the high school honors program. I didn’t think my essays were bad since a couple people reviewed em and thought they were good. I guess maybe I might’ve emphasized more on my qualities than why I wanted to be a part of RISE.

I still havent gotten anything after my initial email about them looking for a professor.

Don’t worry, I got that email too a few weeks ago and was just notified yesterday that they found a matched professor

oh goodness has anybody not received an email at all? i haven’t received a rejection letter nor obviously an acceptance letter or looking for professor to match with letter!

don’t worry - i haven’t received any news as well, but hopefully something will be sent out within the next week or so!

@doglover12 this was to the internship or practicum? Did u also apply for financial aid?

Internship @dragonTD
