Also, I think I misunderstood the person on the phone yesterday, because I got an email back:
“For every on-going research project here at Boston University, about less than two student applications were selected. Factors involved in the matching face include the student’s expressed area of interest, the topic of the research projects, skills researchers are looking for in students, and so on.
Students should expect to hear back about matches anytime from now until late May. “
So maybe chances are better than fifty fifty?? Impossible to say with this info. Pretty frustrating that they can’t even give a number of faculty taking interns…Also, could take until late May
@rraconteur I requested medical research, but I wrote one of my essays about how I am interested in learning more about autism, and the admissions people listened!
Did they provide you with the name of the professor(s) you will be working with and describe the specific research? Does anyone know if they ever place two students on the same project?
I think it’s too early to tell. The original application materials said the decision would take 6 to 8 weeks. It’s not right weeks until next week. And the email received by another applicant above said that matches could be made until late May. If we haven’t heard after next week, I think it’s appropriate to contact the program and inquire about the status.
@HavenR I was given the name of the professor, the department, and a link to the research which I will be working on! @hyperpi314 I applied for medical research, but my essays focused on my passion for children with autism, so they chose an autism lab for me to intern with!
@hodgkin314 Not necessarily…they said that matches could come as late as late May. I think they just give professors/mentors a long time to make their decisions, or they hand it out to more mentors if the first batch they asked don’t want to take any. Idk. I get the feeling that they don’t nail down mentors before they choose the students for the matching phase bc they don’t disclose any probabilities.
Hey everyone! I know in past years they’ve made FaceBook groups for those who were accepted so everyone could get to know each other a little bit, does anyone want to set something like that up?(I would do it myself but I have no idea how to use FaceBook)
I’m still waiting to be matched. Hoping to hear this week since it’s the eighth week post-the February deadline. When did you hear back? What area did you match in? From this strain, sounds like we now have three people matched. Congrats!
So they’re apparently sending out updates today concerning current statuses and they’re still trying to find a mentor for me. Matches will be made up to the end of May and I’m worried that I may not get matched
