BU RISE Program 2020

I’m thinking of applying and I saw that over 800 people apply for ~130 slots. I have a 35 ACT, 800 Math II, great extracurriculars, and solid recommendations. What are my chances?

Definitely worth an application, but do apply elsewhere as well. Despite your stellar stats, nothing is guaranteed.

Assuming you make the first cut based on stats, ECs and LORs, you’re then at the mercy of a professor feeling you’d be a good fit and scooping you up. In that way, your chances depend a lot on what field you’re interested in, and whether the BU professors taking on RISE students are doing research that aligns with your interests.

@curiousme2 i was also thinking of applying. i think the hardest part for me is putting together the essays. do you know any people accepted and willing to share their essays just for me to look at? thanks so much!

Sorry @silicongirl, my child won’t even let me read their essays, they certainly won’t let me share them with strangers.

Why not check out last year’s RISE thread. On the last page, an accepted & matched student shares their stats and thoughts. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/boston-university/2125113-bu-rise-program-2019-p11.html

How much does this program cost?

So for choosing three professors that match my interests, do I just choose any professor at BU in that department? Or are there only a few professors that participate in the internship program?

also, how important is GPA/test scores/LOR/experiences? Is there a good breakdown of what is more important and what is less valued?

great idea! thanks so much

How are you guys approaching your essays for RISE?

I submitted the essays but did not receive an email to send them my transcript or scores. Are we supposed to email it to the burise email

I think you have to wait for them to send you an email

What happens if they don’t send it before the deadline

@Anchovy123 then I think ur app is not considered

When do acceptances for matching phase come out? It says it is late feb to mid march for initial review, but it also says 6-8 weeks after deadline.

Ok hm good q.

There are two “stages” of admission. The initial review like you said is late feb to mid march, and that is when the committee decides which applicants are qualified and move onto the matching process. These applicants are notified that they have made it past the first round and onto the matching phase. Again, that is in mid March I think that this acceptance to the second stage comes out.

Acceptance/offers to the internship track (aka matching phase) are released in late April (which makes sense because it is 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline), per the Admissions Timeline on the website.

@aspiringtoart Do you think the matching phase acceptances will come out next week?

has anyone passed the first stage of admissions? Like did anyone receive an email for matching?

I haven’t received anything yet! honestly probably not gonna make it, but we’ll see!

Nothing yet either. Hopefully they’re released this week or next.

Same here still waiting on any news back. Only ask for transcript and recommendations
