BU scholars program - sat & gpa needed?

Anyone know what the SAT and GPA hurdles are to get into the Scholars program?

How many kids from Freshman class (% or #) get in?

Is it mostly in-state kids?

Someone told me it is easier to get into than UCONN's Honors program - but I find that hard to believe ...

thx

[Binghamton University - Binghamton Scholars Program](<a href=“Scholars | Scholars Program | Binghamton University”>Scholars | Scholars Program | Binghamton University)

I had read this link but no mention of required/minimum GPA nor SAT scores…

Anyone have any additional insights?

According to the FAQ page:

“There is no application process. A committee in the Office of Admissions selects students from admitted freshman based on SAT scores, academic records, and extracurricular and leadership activities and invites them into the program.”

and

“Invitations to join the Scholars Program are sent out in the spring before the student’s freshman year.”

I didn’t find any mention of usual stats either, but it sounds like you don’t need to worry about doing anything to get in because they’ll contact you if you’re invited.

they invite “up to 40 incoming freshmen.” approximately 2000 freshmen enroll.

i don’t think you will find any info for the stats for those invited into the scholars program. but given the fact that only about 2% of the entering class are invited, i think you can assume that their stats are fairly high.

you can look at their common data set – the most recent one on their website is 2009 – <a href=“Office of Institutional Research - Office of Institutional Research | Binghamton University”>Office of Institutional Research - Office of Institutional Research | Binghamton University; which will give you an idea of what their 75 percentile was for the class entering fall 2009 (see section C).

Thank You … looks like you need Ivy stats to get in …

I was invited (I’m in Watson), 33 act, 4.0 gpa, great letters of rec., thought my essay was excellent.

Got into cornell engineering so I guess you can say I have ivy stats, but I will be attending binghamton!

Erm, nevermind. That was the President’s Scholar thing. Confusing names -.-

I’m in scholars and people are definitely curious about everyone’s scores, but it’s not really discussed so I don’t know what the “average” is. I had a 34 ACT / 2140 SAT / 96 gpa. The only two other people whose scores I know got a 33 and 34 ACT. I’m a freshman and there’s 50, not 40 kids this year because they “couldn’t narrow it down”. They do genuinely look at everything; they’re really big on leadership.
