So the two schools are both famous for their hospitality management. Cornell has more prestige and history while BU SHA has the location. BU SHA is a young school. Is this an advantage or a disadvantage? I do not know thier pros and cons in depth. Any thought will be really appreciated
P.s: I am planning to become a Meeting/Convention Planner. Is hospitality management a right major for this job?
Thx :)

I have a son graduating from Cornell SHA, and another son applying to both Cornell and BU programs.

I think it’s quite true that Cornell has the prestige, the history, and an amazing program. Cornell’s program seems to be a bit broader in scope – looking at course descriptions, concentrations, etc. Cornell also has a relationship with the Culinary Institute allowing students to take some courses at the CIA for credit towards their Cornell degree.

BU certainly has a great location for this major, and the program is similar to Cornell’s in that there’s several liberal arts courses required and the possibility of a minor or dual degree.

Both programs require 800 hours of internships … both programs help you get placed for those internships.

Thank you so much cnp55. I would assume that both program are awesome and provide the same education/opportunity. But it seems that if I go to Cornell , I can only concentrate in hotel management ( which is the only business program in Cornell?). So BU would be a better bet if I want to sencond major in, for example, Communication or Bussiness Administration. And Boston is probably a better location than Ithaca
But how about the equipments/facilities? Does Cornell has upper hand in this field since its long history?

Don’t miss the AEM program within Cornell’s College Ag and Life Sciences. THAT is Cornell’s acredited business school.

I have not toured the BU SHA so I cannot comment at this time on facilities. I can say that Cornell has a great facility.

Don’t discount the location – Ithaca is a great little city with a long history and some wonderful places to stay and to dine.

So now I am in a big dilemma…But I am really appriciated your comments
This is sorta out of the topic but it is hard to transfer(second) from Hotel School to Collge of Agriculture and Life Sciences?

SHA is a small program with its own facility. Which is also relatively small. Cornell’s program is larger and is more famous.

I’ve known a few SHA kids and they have liked it a lot. It seems the biggest issue about employment is the state of the industry, not the program.

this thread has provided new insights about BU’s SHA but when I tried to search online about rankings for US hotel schools, only Cornell’s SHA and UNLV came out… BU’s is not seen. I am wondering if this will change in the near future and how is the employment status (like getting into big 5* hotel companies) as Cornell’s SHA seems to have more outstanding alumnis than BU’s? BU seems like a great school though and its SHA building is really awesome! (saw the pictures on their website!) :)
