I just got accepted to BU’s School of Management as a Sophomore! I would love any advice at all about transferring to SMG. How is the SMG299 course? When do we register? How is the orientation? How are the advisors? Do most credits get approved?? Where’s the best place to live as a sophomore transfer student…

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey I’m in the same boat as you. I was accepted into SMG on friday as a sophomore.

Yeah I was accepted last Tuesday but I’m so clueless when it comes to housing and everything! Have you committed yet? I have so many questions

I can’t help you with your questions about transfering, but I’m in SMG so I can answer questions about classes etc.

I haven’t taken SM299, I’ve heard the team projects are time-consuming since there are a lot of them packed into one semester. When my friend took it last year, she had to do a lot of ‘flash assignments’ that you have to do on your own time within a strict deadline. As for the material covered (which is essentially the same as SM121/122 which I took as a freshman) - you get a taste of different areas of a business education - basic accounting, finance, marketing etc. Apart from lectures, the class has a discussion and a lab section and they take attendance in both. I think there is a special discussion section for transfers, so the Undergrad Programs Office (UPO) will most likely register these classes for you.

The advisors at the UPO are all really friendly and helpful, they can assist you with pretty much anything academics-related. There’s at least one advisor who handles transfer students exclusively, so he/she is the best person to ask about approving your transfer credits.

As for housing, I would recommend either Towers or Warren. Towers is a mix of freshmen and sophomores and is right next to SMG. Warren is mostly freshmen, but very social so it’s easy to make friends if you’re a transfer. There’s a SMG floor in Warren but it was all-freshmen when I lived there.
