BU Social Life

Hi everyone!! I’m applying ED to BU next year and am wondering if anyone could answer these questions.
1.) What is the social life like at BU? I know sororities are not big at BU, but are there still big parties and so on.
2.) Since BU is in the heart of Boston, is it easy to get internships and attain research opportunities?
3.) Is grade deflation real at BU? I want to major in poli science and philosophy in CAS on a pre-law track, and I need to maintain a good GPA so i could get into a good law school.

If you anyone could answer these questions, it would mean so much! Thank you!!

Hi! I am a rising junior at BU so after 2 years here, I am pretty sure I can answer your questions.

  1. Sororities aren't huge at BU, but they still have a large presence on campus in my opinion. I am in a sorority myself and I love it. There are about 200 girls in each sorority and there are 9 sororities on campus. This year, around 700 girls rushed to join a sorority so it is bigger than people make it seem! Most parties take place at the frat houses at BU, MIT, or Harvard. If you are interested in going to parties, there are definitely options.
  2. It is super easy to get internships in boston. First semester of my sophomore year I did an internship dowtown on state street and I took the T 3 times a week into he city to go to my internship before/after class.
  3. I have never personally experienced grade deflation myself, but I am a COM major. I hear it is more prevalent in the STEM classes. That being said, you should be fine with a poli sci major.

@laurrodes thank you so much for answering my questions! Also, since BU rush is during spring semester, are freshmen who aren’t in sororities yet still given the option to party?

@collegelover1234 haha yes, people can still go to parties regardless of their involvement in greek life

People can definitely still go to parties! They are just a little bit harder to find if you aren’t in Greek life.
