BU Transfer Fall 2014

@cctransfer212‌

I’m a freshman in college right now. Going into my sophomore year this fall.

College GPA (on a 4.0 scale): 3.9
High School GPA (5-scale? I don’t know, but I literally was a B- to B average student): 3.51
I sent my SAT scores by accident lol b/c I was applying to Northeastern as well & they required scores, but my highest SAT total for all 3 subjects was 1610.
I had two recommendations (high school math teacher & college professor).
My essay: I really dislike the college I’m at now; it’s so freaking small and it’s not my type. I said a large university would offer me many more opportunities and help me step out of my comfort zone.
BU Supplement: I danced for 14 years and still going, hoping to be a huge part of the BU dance team and club, I’m a current CorpsMember for Jumpstart and I still would like to continue that at BU, and I’m a first-generation college student in my family.

Hope this helps. Good luck! (:

I got accepted last week! I’m really thrilled about going as long as I can get both of my parents to agree. I am going to be a sophomore in the fall. I alrleady posted my stats earlier but for those of you who don’t wanna fish through the comments:
My stats:

Transferring from: George Mason University
Accepted to: Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
College GPA: 3.91
HS GPA: 3.71
SAT: 1620/2400
ACT: 24
alot of ECs and 2 rec letters (bio professor and bio lab professor)
Financial aid received: $21,100 in BU grant and $5,500 in loans.

I know to everyone else in the forum, can you give me some feedback on this…
i know i’ve heard from a lot of places that transfers don’t usually get aid so i was really thrilled to see that I received over 1/3 of the schools price. One of my parents don’t think that I’ve receive enough. I was confused cuz I was not even expecting to get this much. Is my dad right, like is this not a lot of aid, or is it a lot in comparison to what most students receive?

@transferr159 Well I hope your dad isn’t comparing the aid you received to the aid incoming freshmen receive, because there is much more for them. I’m no expert on aid, but depending on what your parents make of course, I think 1/3 is pretty sizeable for a transfer. It really is up to your parents though if they are paying, so if you’re passionate about the school and think it’s pragmatic then show them that. Hope this helps :]

That’s great guys. I have already seen people with a 3.8+ getting accepted. What do you guys think of a 3.6?

Hello everyone!
i am new to this BU thread! :slight_smile:
I have a question, and hope you guys can answer it for me!!

1. SO, I have not submitted my midterm grade yet- because I got C for my history class for my first midterm (other two classes are A tho), so I was waiting for the second midterm for that class, and it is this Wed. Professor said she can grade mine on that day, so I will probably be able to send the midterm report this week.

Do you think it is too late?

2. I have gotten email from BU to submit course syllabi… and I was procrastinating forever until now. I mean I have taken 24 classes at my community college, so it is really hard to get all the syllabi from like fall 2011 classes. but then, I just checked the application status webpage, and it says,

*Our records currently indicate that the following credentials are still required to complete your application for admission :

Transfer Mid-Term Grades

it does not say anything about course syllabi…so did you guys submit course syllabi?
Does this really affect my admission? :(

Seems like everybody is getting admissions and now I am worried :frowning:

@osygirl‌, for what it’s worth, I was accepted on Friday and never sent a midterm report. ;)

@PaintTheSilence‌
thanks for the reply! So your application status webpage didnt even say that you need to submit the midterm report? Or it said so but it just ggot changed to congratulations?
Congrats btw :slight_smile: !!!

Thanks!
No, it did. It said to submit the mid-term report all the way up until I got an email saying that my decision had been made. :)

@PaintTheSilence‌
oh that sounds good! I hope i can just get the decision notification without sending my midterm report . what about the course syllabi then? Did you submit them?
Also, i think i saw you on the cornell thread as well and you got into cornell right? Congratulations on that one too :’)
for the cornell, did you submit your midterm report?
Sorry I have too many questions! And thank you for your kind comments :)

@osygirl, Thanks again!
I did not send a midterm report to Cornell, either. However, my acceptance to Cornell was a bit unique, so I was able to convey my anticipated midterm grades during a phone call with the director of admissions. As for BU’s course syllabi, I have not submitted those yet either. I’m still in the process of gathering them all (I have some pretty lazy and stubborn professors). So, I received my decision without submitting either of those items.

@PaintTheSilence‌
wow that is great! I envy you so so much!! I hope I can get into both BU and Cornell (wish me luck!!!)
So for cornell, how did you find out that you got accepted? Did you get an email? You know lots of people on the cornell thread talking about the decision.applyyourself webpage to fin out the date that we get decisions, do you think it actually works?
And thank you so much for the comment:)

I can’t speak to the decision site because I was told via telephone. I got a letter the following week with my decision and an email the day after that. I hope you get in to both, too! Good luck!!

@PaintTheSilence‌ You’ve got a call from Cornell? That is so awesome :slight_smile:
and thanks for the wishes !!

Hey everyone!
I’m new to this thread :slight_smile:

I was accepted into the school of education a week ago, just wondering if anyone else is applying to SED or has already been accepted??

@23BostonBoston‌ I have been accepted into SED!

Hey guys! I was accepted to CAS this past week and I’m SO EXCITED about going - BU was my top choice last year but I was waitlisted. i was wondering if anyone who’s been accepted yet has filled out the Housing info for next semester? I’m going to transfer in as a first-semester sophomore and I’m not too sure about what the best place to live would be. My current university has apartment-style dorms, which meant everyone kept their doors shut and basically kept to themselves all year. Does anyone know what the best place for us transfers to live is? I was actually looking into freshman dorms, only because I’ll be just as new and confused as them and the environment will probably be more welcoming. Any suggestions?

@Transferr159 It all depends on what you need. If BU think you need aid, they’ll give it to you. If not, they won’t. For the most part though, no one will ever be satisfied by what their college gives them (unless its like full). I guess just be grateful you received aid and hopefully that’s enough?
@cctransfer212‌ I got in last year with a 3.6 (SMG), but I completed a lot of courses prior and I had a decent SAT/HS GPA/EC/Essays/Recs.

Do anyone get their decision today? This is taking too long…

@626transfer‌, you applied as a transfer with a 3.6?

@cctransfer212 Do you also apply SMG?
