BU + Trustee Scholarship

Its that time of the year and eager students & parents are stressed & excited with the admission results coming in and i hope the following helps you in your decision making if you are considering BU Trustee Scholarship.
I write here as a parent whose child joined BU in recent years as a Trustee Scholar. Most of what i write here is based on what i have heard from my child - so please, don’t take everything at face value.

If you are wondering who these Trustee Scholars are, it’s a great cohort. All have admirable scores in SAT-ACT as well as in School, almost all have fantastic EC performance, most if not all got admission into Top ( as defined correctly or incorrectly, in US News ) brand name Universities but decided not to accept those offers because of various reasons including financial issues, they come from various parts of the country and the world and all bring specific & diverse qualities.

I have not heard complaints on any major elitist vibes because Trustee Scholars have a specific profile. They are well integrated into the overall very positive and healthy academic & social environment at BU.

You will need to work hard to maintain the GPA requirement…have no doubts on this. Nothing to get scared of but just a reminder. You will need to choose your course-load carefully and ensure to speak to the advisors who i hear are very helpful.

If you are considering BU Trustee Scholarship offer, if possible, make it a point to visit BU and speak to some of the scholars and the staff. Or ask for TS email contacts from Ad Com to enable you get some perspective if you cannot visit BU before you make a decision.

As a Trustee Scholar, you get the overall BU excellence & diversity plus, the great benefits of being in a vibrant city like Boston and some specific advantages related to being a Trustee Scholar. The details of those benefits are beyond the scope of this post…you may like to speak to Admissions for same.

College is a lot about what we make out of it.
Trustee Scholarship program is working for my child …so far and hope it works for you if you decide to consider same.

Good Luck !

Hi, I realize this may not be a question you’re willing to answer, but what were your child’s credentials (SAT/ACT scores, gpa, etc.)? I’d like to apply for the trustee scholarship but I don’t know if it is even in the realm of possibility for me. Thank you!

Yeah if you are willing to give any of your child’s stats that would be really helpful. According to the website I would be in the top 1-6% of freshman (based on SATs) but I don’t know how accurate that is so any help would be great!

SAT >2300, AP’s - 12 with GPA 4/4 with all A’s from a good neighborhood school. EC’s were not particularly strong, but i did see a lot of time & effort being spent on the Essay.

Having said that, based on what i hear

selected TS’s have a range of SAT scores & GPA’s.

some TS’s have particularly strong EC’s

2 years back, a friend’s child with better SAT score, similar GPA and EC’s did not get the TS offer. I am saying this to drive home the point that it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions from these data-points.

As with all college admission decisions, particularly those with generous merit scholarships, it is important to offer a package that is strong from multiple aspects with one potential anchor. Rest is luck.

Wish you all the very best…

Hi! I’m a trustee this year and thought I would throw my stats in there for those who were asking:

  • 36 ACT (superscored, but 35 in one sitting)
  • 9 AP tests, all scores 4+
  • Valedictorian of a USNWK top 20 school, 4.0/4.0 GPA
  • World ranked in my EC
  • International Relations major
I’ve talked with some other trustees, and I 100% agree with Dowell. Great test scores, great ECs, a real interest in learning, etc.

Hey everyone,
I’m a trustee scholar and I just want to say that you’re making the required stats seem much greater than they really need to be
There are plenty of trustee scholars with sat scores less than 2100 and plenty of trustees who didn’t get 5’s on all their AP exams
Furthermore, most trustee scholars don’t maintain a 4.0
Many of the trustee scholar’s are recruited because they have a few particularly strong points on their applications, so if you have some very prestigious extracurricular activity or some outstanding talent, you can get the scholarship without having impeccable academics

Hi,

Would any of the trustee scholars or their parents give tips and advice about the essay? How did you approach it?

Thanks a lot.

u write it.
