BU vs. BC for communications

I like BC better as a school overall, but I’ve heard that BU has a better communications program. That being said, BC is generally more prestigious and may look better on job applications for that reason. Any opinions on this?

I’m looking go to into the public relations/advertising/marketing side of communications (nothing technical like film or broadcasting). If I choose BC over BU, will I be sacrificing a lot academically?

Contact BC’s career office; find out about recruiting, alumni etc into advertising etc…

BU is nationally known for their adv program

I may be a little biased because I’m in COM, but BU’s program is much better. COM and BU are known and approved nationally, and I believe that I’ve gotten great experience thus far as an advertising student. BC has a business school for marketing, but if you’re looking to go into Public Relations/Advertising and want practical experience right off the bat, you should choose BU. Although BC may be ranked higher academically, I believe that students from BU have more real-world experience.

For example, BU is home to AdLab, the largest student-run agency in the country. As an Account Executive last year, I was given a real client, real deadlines, and agency experience managing my own team. Top agencies regularly reach out to the professors in charge of AdLab asking for BU students to join their offices, whether it’s for a full time job or for an internship. Additionally, BU has several PR and Ad Clubs, such as PRSSA and AdClub, which allow you to get experience and make connections even if you’re not sure what kind of communications with which you want to get involved.

All of my professors have worked in top agencies all over the country, and don’t hesitate to give advice, provide real-world experience, and recommend you for jobs. When applying for summer internships earlier in the year, my former professor pointed out employees that I should address my emails and cover letters to, and to mention that I was one of his students-they are well connected and also great teachers and mentors.

If you want a Bachelors of Science in Communication (PR/Advertising) choose BU hands down-the opportunities afforded in the city, plus the practical experience make it a great choice. I’m know BC is a great school, but COM is a better program for communications.

Thanks for all the info! I’m going to both accepted students’ days this weekend so that will probably help in my decision.
