What a tough choice -
BU - substantially more expensive, appears to have stronger student body socially and opportunity wise for research, internships, etc, College of General Studies would give her a great liberal arts small school feeling for first two years as well as a capstone project. BU was her "dream school" from day one - she is over the potential stigma of CGS - not worried about at this time. My worry is that it seems to rachet up the difficulty of jr and sr year as you are taking all major classes, and if you change your major you are potentially into a fifth year. If she has to do fifth year, she will have to take big loans, but can afford first four. This is tough, as some majors that she might pick may need extra time to do classes after all

DePaul - also has great programs - more ability to experiment with various majors within 4 years - great scholarship for merit, smaller classes although students almost all move off campus after freshman year and seem less connected. According to this board, some people say campus very friendly - seems much less social by counting the number of "hang out" and restaurant, etc spots on campus. Concerned that almost noone in CA has heard of DePaul, making us question job connections if she returns to West Coast after school.

Oops! Sorry - hit post too soon!! Really would love to hear posters opinions, especially those who have experience in West Coast work force and.or experience with these two schools. How in the world do we determine the effect of diploma on working in CA? Our small sample suggests that DePaul is not known, but we have a lot of family/friend connections to Boston, so I am not sure if this is a true sample. FYI, we live in Orange County, and are almost certainly going to be here for the next ten years. We obviously don’t know if our DD will return after school, but would hope to live close to her and potential grandkids down the road!! My guess is that she would if she could find a good job here…four winters in either may be enough!
