What are the differences? What makes one school better than the other (excluding rankings, GPA, SAT etc.). If you could choose one, which would it be (assuming cost wasn’t an issue). Also anyone who debated between the two schools, what made you decide?

BU.
Knowing the people that I know at each school, Northeastern is much more of a party school. BU has stricter dorm policies concerning drinking. I feel that BU students are more focused on their futures. But that's just based on people that i've come in contact with.

My grandmother is under the impression that NEU is in a not so great area of Boston. BU is located right there on Comm. Ave and on the Charles River. Location at BU is awesome.

i thought that bu's location was also better...i know people say that neu is right in the middle of the city, but it didn't seem so safe. i was visiting a friend by neu this summer and she was like o yea btw, don't go into that convenience store, someone was just shot there, etc. lol

Northeastern is getting better as a school. It was formerly much more a commuter school. They've done a good job of creating a much better campus. It's known mostly for its coop program, where you work . . . but you should check them for details. The area it's in is both excellent and pretty bad, meaning it's next to the art museum and Back Bay but the direction it's expanded has been toward Roxbury, so the area to that side is not nearly as nice or safe.

But NEU does have the co-op program. Which means you graduate in 5 years because you spend time going to school and getting job experience in the field you are studying.

I also think NEU has options where you can do co-op in 4 yrs or graduate in 4 yrs without doing co-op, but it might depend on the field you are going into.

I'd say if you don't mind the extra year and want job experience, maybe NEU might be a better fit for you. Otherwise I'd say BU has a slightly better reputation.
