BU vs NYU engineering

Hello,

I’ve recently been accepted to both Boston University and NYU’s engineering programs and I’m trying to decide which one is better. Any comments or advice would be really helpful!

You are aware NYU Eng is in Brooklyn next to Metro Tech Center?

@OnTheBubble I’m aware it’s in Brooklyn but I didn’t know about the Center nor do I understand why it would be relevant. Could you please explain?

It is a big giant office park. I am just pointing it out because it seems many don’t know the degree of separation from the main campus or the surroundings. You are probably 20 - 30 minutes from the rest of NYU.

@OnTheBubble oh okay I see what you meant now. Yeah unfortunately those are some of the things working against NYU for me at the moment. I’ve also heard their eng program in general is not the greatest

I interviewed an alumnus from the old Polytechnic University and he was quite satisfied and proud of the engineering education he received there. I understand that the old school was a bit of a weed out place, but that’s about the worst thing I have heard, in addition to the cost. Of course with the merger with NYU it’s a new day. What’s your target engineering discipline? For Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, there’s probably not much difference. However, Boston University does excel in Chemical Engineering with a bio and pharma focus.

Okay I’m thinking about biomedical eng so that puts me more in favour of BU, thanks @LakeWashington !

I’m a freshman at Poly atm majoring in Chemical Engineering. It’s a good school but the only thing that’s special about it is NY. There’s not much of a social life, but you can do anything in the city. The facilities are decent but overall the education does not make it worth the money. I’ll probably apply for transfer next year so that I can complete the last 2 years somewhere else like UIUC or UW Madison.

I’ll be really sad leaving NY but I’ll be happy that I’m going to a better university

Thank you for this perspective @Ronswansonkazmi . So far it’s definitely looking like BU then
