BU vs NYU Transfer Student

I am now blessed with the option of many colleges to choose from. Its come down to BU and NYU. I already sent my deposit to NYU to save my spot. I am just wondering on what some of your opinions are of these two schools and their CAS programs. I will probably be a psych major and maybe an Econ minor. We’ll see but thanks anything would be nice. Also money is an issue. and NYU is now about 30,000 so if BU is significantly cheaper then I’d go there.

they are both about $47,000 (tuiton, room, board, books, expenses)....

i know but depending on what i get for financial aid from Boston University

NYC is a more expensive location so you'll need to think that through in terms of your off campus social life. My s chose BU over NYU but it really came down to Boston being a genuine college town. You can't go wrong with either school if you like an urban setting. BU has more of a campus feel. So if they are comparable perhaps it may come down to which school provides you with the best aid. BU's Econ. Dept is very good and they even have an option to get a Masters in Economics in 5 yrs. For Psych I don't think either is superior.

If you are from PA consider that NYU is only a 2 hr drive whereas Boston is about 5.5 or so. So that may be in NYUs favor unless you want to be farther away. NYU's dorms usually all have private bathrooms although the down side is that they are really spread out and can be many, many blocks from each other and from the so-called campus. Still, NYC is a great town! Boston too.
Keep us posted. Any idea when BU will give you the $ info?

if you have already been accepted to both, how do you not know your financial aid package?? plus, I wouldn't say NYC is so much more expensive than Boston...I have a friend at NYU and she says she doesn't spend that much money but she still does a lot of of stuff....and BU charges you for EVERYTHING so it won't be that much less money.

I think it's also important to note that Boston and New York are both incredibly different cities.

If you are from PA consider that NYU is only a 2 hr drive whereas Boston is about 5.5 or so.

Meh. We drove up to Boston. I didnt find it to be a big deal.

True, Its not a huge difference but the cost of living in NYC is slightly higher. The drive may not seem like much but its a full day situation back and forth or overnight compared to NYU being a quick trip from your area.
They are very different cities and NYC is slightly warmer. But for BME you can't miss with BU.

Wow guys thanks alot! i was accepted to NYU in late April and accepted at BU 2 days ago, BU said my package will take about a week to process. I love that Boston University is surrounded by other schools to make it more of a college town, but i love how close NYU is. I could literally just catch the train around the corner and wait an hour. I enjoy the diversity that NYU or BU has rather than my previous school. I also have to see if BU accepts all of my credits because NYU did. I have a few friends in new york too. One at Columbia and on four at NYU. I'll just wait and see. i'll update.

It seems like you like NYU better, but are a little concerned over money. I'd pick NYU, pick where you'd be happier--loans aren't the end of the world.

UPDATE: I will be at NYU in the fall. Boston University gave me not a penny in financial aid.. :D! thrilled
