BU vs UC Berkeley

Daughter accepted to both. Invited to honors college and awarded Trustee scholarship at BU. BU has her major of choice (film). “Normal” acceptance at UCB (did not make the cut for Regents scholarship), and would enter as an English major since they don’t have film.

Questions/concerns are: UCB seems to carry more “prestige”, but she’s leaning toward BU because of the major. Also, have heard getting classes at UCB can be problematic; “big school” issues. BU is big but because of honors/trustee status, she’d be in smaller classes and have some help and guidance others might not be afforded.

We live in SoCal but she’s excited about east coast.

Thoughts, comments? What else should we be considering?

Both seem like viable options. Which one is more expensive? If they are the same BU seems like kilachand + merit + film seems like a good option if thats what your daughter really wants to do. I assume she has toured both?

Yes, toured both. Just got home from a weekend at BU. She really liked it and is leaning toward BU.

Costs are a wash. Merit scholarship at BU covers most everything but room/board. We’re eligible for a veteran’s benefit at UCB that covers most everything (except room/board).

I would say BU seems like it could be the better option for her.
