Okay, so I didn’t know where to put this. Hopefully I made the right choice. Anyway, I was extremely excited and set on UCSB until the other day when BU decisions came out. Here’s my problem. I come from a rural area, and have always dreamed of going to college in a big city (I’m not a redneck or anything – I actually have a second home in San Francisco, but I go to school in a small town). I love Boston (I was born there), and I love the fact that it snows. However, there are two problems: I really want to major in Middle East Studies – which BU doesn’t offer, and I was only accepted to the College of General Studies. At UCSB I was admitted to the Middle East Studies program, so I could follow the academic track that I want to take strait off there. I do know that BU’s International Relations Program offers many classes related to Middle East studies, but I have a feeling it will focus a little less on that aspect of International Relations than UCSB’s mid east studies program. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks for the help.

mm well. As much as I love BU, it would seem the logical thing to do would be to go for the school that has what you actually want to study.

well essentially i think that academics and what you want to major in and study is the most important aspect of this decision. also if i got into CGS and not COM i probably wouldn't be going to BU, but that's just me. if you plan on going to graduate school, then you still have the chance to go to a school in a big city whether it's BU or not. i know it's a little confusing, choosing a college is always the hardest thing to do, it's completely nervewracking. of course i won't tell you what you should do but you should definitely also take into consideration the money issue, where you'll end up after 4 years at whichever school, and where you want to go after undergrad. i hope i helped in some way.

If BU doesn't have what you want to study, go to UCSB.

Yea, I agree, but make sure that you do some research before making your final decision.

I live in southern california about an hour and a half from ucsb. Its a gorgeous school & the weather is amazing. I got in there as well, along with UCI. However, my top choice is BU. My only problem is I didnt get any financial aid, so its up to my dad if he wants to pay. For you, I would say go to UCSB- it is known as a pretty hardcore party town but it is not impossible to stay away from that if you want to.
