I’m from California, and got accepted to BU today, and UCSD last week. I’m planning on becoming a doctor and majoring in Neuroscience at BU and Neuroscience at SD.
I need help… It would cost 30k at SD, and 35k at BU.
Which would provide me the best chance of getting into med school, and worth the debt?

I’m also from California and deciding between BU and UCSD as of now. International Relations major. I’d have to pay $10k at UCSD and $15k at BU. Not sure how to decide…

Being from California, I would love to live in Boston… I just would be in alot more debt than if I went to SD. This is a hard choice…
What colleg did you get into^^? I got into Muir.

I got accepted into both too, and I’m from CA! anyways, one way to solve the issue: Visit the schools! (if you can’t to BU, attend a nearby admitted student seminar they’re having in April). Since the finaid packages are pretty similar for both you, this will be a good tie breaker. Also, don’t forget to research every avenue, meaning other possibly fields of study that you may venture into, the cities and their job market, the student body, etc. Doing that whole process, (maybe the same one that you did before applying) will help you make a more definite decision.

I got into ERC.

I’m considering visiting BU, actually! They have two Open House sessions during the week of my spring break. I’m still waiting to hear from some more colleges this week, though.

I won’t be able to make the open house unfortunately
I’m wondering If th added debt from BU is worth it, an how the pre med programs at SD and BU are.

i’m a current BU freshman and I had the hardest time deciding to come here. I liked BU when I first applied but there were other schools that I thought I liked better. I narrowed it down to BU, Brandies, and Rutgers. The deciding factor that made me really love BU was when I came to accepted students day. They’re tours were much better than the ones they give every other day. They show you a lot more. They make it so easy to fall in love with the school. Although I was hesitant when I sent in my acceptance purely for financial reasons, I made the best decision. BU is the best. I’m academically challenged, socially at home, and I find new things to do every day in the city. I never would have gotten to know how perfect BU was if i hadn’t come to visit the campus itself

Just to let ypu know BU neuroscience is nowhere near UCSD neuroscience program and its cheaper…

So the neuroscience program at UCSD is superior to BU’s?

Definitely.

I visited Bu a couple years ago and fell in love with it…but ill be in debt, rather if I go to ucsd I wouke he in quite small debt, compared to Bu. Would bu be worth the debt and does it hav a better pre med program?

10charbumpp

I would say go to UCSD. I’m saying this because I know that UCSD is great at the sciences, especially anything related to bio. From what I know, UCSD’s bio is better than BU’s. Also, since you’re planning to go to grad school, you have to factor in the cost of another several years at either a public or a private. It looks like UCSD has the better program and is a better financial choice for you :)

Since you’re deciding between schools, it’s also important to see if the school has other programs you’re interested in. It’s often reported that college students change their major at least once, so make sure the school you’re choosing to attend has multiple strong majors academically. Try flipping through Fiske’s Guide to Colleges (the thick green one) and see what strong programs each school has.

I’m actually in a similar situation, trying to decide between NYU or UCSD for a communications major. Both schools are pretty good at it, but NYU would have better internships and SD would be cheaper (fellow Californian yay).
