BU vs UVM

hi! i'm a high school senior and have received all the admissions decions from the 4 colleges i applied to. But now the real hard part is choosing where to go! I was denied to Boston College (not a surprise), and accepted to UVM, BU and Northeastern. I narrowed down the list to just BU and UVM. what are some pros and cons of each school? I don't even have the slightest clue where i'm going to end up..
thanks in advance everyone! (:

The two schools don’t seem very different to me in terms of academic reputation. On the other hand, they’re extremely different in setting and ambience. If you’ve visited each, you know that BU is ultra-urban with a non-traditional campus and less of a “college town” vibe, while UVM is lush, green, and scenic, in a small city setting. I’d think that anyone would have to prefer one setting over the other, though different students would have different preferences. I’ve heard some say that UVM may have more of a counterculture feel among the students, though I’d be surprised if sweeping stereotypes can really hold any validity in a population of > 10,000. BU’s undergrad student body, by the way, is about twice that of UVM’s - something that would make me appreciate the relatively moderate size of Vermont.

I am a freshman at UVM and have good friends at BU. BU is much larger, about 30,000 students, while UVM is about 12,000. BU is also right in the middle of boston, which personally i didn’t like when i visited. UVM has a campus that is separate from downtown burlington, which has been nice in my experience. BU has more courses and majors, due to its size. However, the classes will probably be larger due to its size (my friends regularly have 200 person lectures). The classes can be big at UVM too, at least freshman year ( i have had several 100+ student classes). UVM has somewhat of a party scene, but everything pretty much happens off campus, and is easy to avoid. Often times, students will not go to social events where there is no drinking involved, which is disappointing. Hockey games are popular here, and sell out quickly, but other sports are usually not as well attended, other than basketball. UVM is near the mountains and lake, which is good if you like the outdoors (we just had a heat wave up here and pretty much the whole campus headed down to north beach at lake champlain for the day). Of course, the weather will be worse up in vt (colder and actually cloudier). What are you trying to study? BU is good for engineering and business, while UVM is known for sciences and health majors. Hope this helps
