pretty sure BU is ranked like number 2 in the country...following Syracuse at number 1i believe...

not trying to steal from your thread but...

same question for Syracuse and BU..was accetped to both Newhouse and COM- DONT KNOW WHERE TO GOOOOO lol please helpp..i know Newhouse has a better rep but i loveee boston

does anyone have a ranking of communication schools?

IMHO, rankings are useless and my daughter is in COM. You need to get a feel for a) which school you would prefer generally and b) the philosophy, if any, of the communications school and c) how the specific department in communications works. Some of this you can find by reading each school's bulletin, meaning you can see what they say and how they lay out their curriculum.

Newhouse (Syracuse) is considered especially strong in broadcast journalism.

there isn't much of a difference between one and two. i'd choose BU for its location.

first of all, screw the rankings. unless you're at an ivy league they're not going to do much for you.

that said, i say bu because we're awesome. all of my friends in com love it and i have yet to hear any complaints [except for switching writing styles between com classes and cas classes]. also, there is boston ... big plus.

i was jw...i've always heard people say that one communication school is rated so and so and another is rated something else...but i've never actually seen any rankings for comm. schools

communications courses:

BU: http://www.bu.edu/bulletins/und/item17c3.html
syracuse: http://www.syr.edu/publications/undergradcat/Newhouse.pdf

(i can't find wisconsin's. for the original poster, which specific college did u get accepted to?)

i think the main difference between BU and syracuse's course requirements is that syracuse requires more core courses. for example, i'm a film major at BU. i need to take 2 core film courses, then i get to decide my other 8. at syracuse, they require 7 core film courses.

i know academics is important, but i think u should try comparing the two universities in terms of other stuff too. what kind of location do u want in a college? what kind of campus? how many students? how far away from home? how much financial aid?
