Bucknell 2009 Acceptees!

my friend alex got into bucknell. he plays water polo

congrats to Alex! And Bucknell graduates 100% of its athletes...which will be nice for him as well!

I was accepted to Bucknell ED too. It's nice to have everything done and turned in. My screen name on AIM is the same as my username if anyone wants to talk!

Congrats on your acceptance! You should check out the webcam on the Bucknell home page--they have snow, but didn't catch the big blizzard.

I got into Bucknell 2009 also! I am SO excited. I just got my packet today in the mail! I had no idea it would come this early...yay!

getreal did you apply ED 1/1 or regular?

i did ED2---are you applying?

I did regular 1/1, even though Bucknell is my top choice. I didn't want to have the 100% you-have-to-go-here obligation so that I could find out more about all the places I applied to before making a final final decision - although I'm thinking Bucknell will be the place that I choose in the end (if I get in).

On a tangent, does anyone know if when the college says they will mail out responses April 1st - is that an 'at the latest' deadline or is that when they mail them all out at the same time. I'm thinking that as they process them and review the applications (don't know how they order them - alphabetically??!?!) they send the replies out to the applicants. Anyone know?

you should recieve your response by the first week of april. thats what i hear for all the other schools. i'm so excited i got in and its binding..but i'm kind of curious as to what would have happened with other schools. does anyone know if i need to withdraw my applications or can i keep them in the mail just to see what happens ;)

getreal, my understanding with the ED process is that you are REQUIRED to immediately withdraw your applications from all other colleges. I believe if you examine your ED application you probably signed a document that you would do so. While, of course, human nature would have one interested in what would have happened, the consequences of not withdrawing your other applications (if indeed you are required to do so as I suspect) could create some problems for you. The first problem is that you may have represented that you would do so and so failure to do so may violate your agreement. Second, and probably of even more significance is the fact that in a very real way you are competing against kids in your own school for acceptance to the various colleges. Athough some college admissions people will not agree with this, the fact is that if you get an acceptance when you could have withdrawn before a decision to accept you is made by a college--you may be taking an acceptance that could go to another student at your school. The desire to know could result in a denial for another student. Third, one of the reasons the colleges require you to withdraw upon early decision is that by doing so you you , in effect, raise the "yield" for all the other colleges. That is , the other colleges to which you applied will be notified you have withdrawn your application so they will not send you an acceptance only to have you turn them down (thereby decreasing their "yield".) Lastly, I suppose that the ED school to which you have been accepted does not want you to learn of other schools that might take you, thereby creating a potential problem if you would rather go to that other school.

Camkerr87, I feel exactly the same way that you do. What are your stats and where else did you apply?

1310 on SAT
31 on ACT
4.07 out of 5 weighted GPA
top 10% of class of 190
(the basics)

I applied to: Hamilton, Colgate, Union, University of Rochester (offered me money, why not?), UMass Amherst (nice and cheap, although last choice), and of course Bucknell.

Applying as well to: Dickinson (second choice after Bucknell), Gettysburg, and Muhlenberg.

I had 29 ACT which is about 1310 SAT...4.2 Weighted on 4.7 scale-showed a lot of interest---i'm really excited though--i think you are in the ballpark for all the other competitive people---but bucknell RD WILL be getting all the Apps from the kids that did not get into Ivys so it will be a bit more competitive--if you have good recs/great essay and show interest i think its in the bag

any ED's get any merit aid info back

Bucknell's merit aid program is new so I don't know a lot about it. They do meet your demonstrated financial need however. We found the financial aid package was very competitive with other like schools. My son applied RD and received it about a week after his acceptance.

I got in ED1 and got my aid package and was a little disapointed. I got a Dean's scholarship which is $10,000 a year but only two thousand some dollars after that in loans. I don't really know about other scholarships. There were some applications in the financial aid package I received and I'm pretty sure they are for named scholarships, but I'm not sure...

If anyone wants to chat, IM me, my harasbunk is my AIM name....

I'm looking forward to going to Bucknell in April!

Is anyone else an engineering major?

harasbunk, if you don't mind, what general stats do you have

4.0 out of 4.0 and 1380

texasmom, what are the best dorms to get if i want co-ed and no special interest? and also did your son do the BuckWild/orientation in April?

My son is in "Hotel Bucknell" aka McDonnell which is very nice, hence the name. It's co-ed --girls rooms and boys room on the same floor. He didn't ask for one of the special interest dorms, either. Most the freshman seemed to be "downhill" instead of "uphill" where he is.

Unfortunately he could not attend the April orientation because of his debate schedule, nor did he do the Buck Wild.

The above link is to Year in the Life which is written by freshmen students. Look under "Brittany" because she went to Buck Wild. "Will" lives on my sons's floor in McDonnell.
