Hi all!!! I was recently accepted to Bucknell! I’m so happy. Originally my first choice school was Bowdoin but after I was rejected from there, I really started to look into Bucknell. It’s now my top choice. In case you are wondering my stats are:

SAT1:1320
SAT2:760/740/680
Top 10% 4.2 W 3.9 UW
ECs: university-level research, Admissions Ambassador, student Proctor, founder of Debate Club, V Cross Country Captain (for two years), volunteer work at hospital/school/Canyon Ranch, Student Writer for Yale Children Hosptial’s Magazine, National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine
I had strong recs and essays and also had a member of the board write a letter on my behalf.
If you want to know more about me not relating to academics my myspace website is http://www.myspace.com/10716810

Who else has been accepted and thinks Bucknell is their first choice?? I’ll love to talk to you! and also what’s up with Bucknell not being listed as one of the top liberal arts schools. It’s ranked 26 in USNews and is on the list of top liberal arts schools. Besides, it frickin awesome!!! We should definately change that…

LOL Because most people on this forum are intent on getting to Haavahd. Good for you to recognize the beauty in a school that does not have Ivy covered walls! :)

Bucknell has been my number one choice in the admissions process all along, in a very close race with Cornell...However, pending i make no progress on my waitlist decision at cornell's ILR, I will definately be attending bucknell in the fall. (Also the rejections from Carnegie Mellon, Amherst, and Dartmouth make things easier) And i agree with you, Bucknell is not getting the credit it deserves in the CC liberal arts rankings. Also, I think even USNews might have a number too low. I love the campus and atmosphere at bucknell, and i am 90% sure i will see you there come this fall.

hey is anyone else who got accepted to Bucknell thinking about going pre-med? does anyone know about the Bucknell pre-med program because i'm am planning on being premed... I know they don't have a specific major for it. but can anyone tell me about the program?

Sorry hcasper, my son is a social sciences major. Try emailing someone in that department--check the Bucknell web page.

littlebigs....two of the things that make Bucknell lower on those blasted lists deal with the selectivity score. One is average SAT, which actually rose with last year's class to 1350; and one is acceptance rate which dropped last year to 36%. Quite frankly, if their average SAT goes as high as those top schools and their acceptance rate drops accordingly, then a lot of wonderful kids will just end up with another out of reach school. I'm glad it is what it is. I hope it never becomes an Ivy-ish pretender or top tenner.

You name it, and they will rank a school for it. Take your pick: most selective, least expensive, most graduating athletes, highest freshman retention, prettiest campus, most "wired dorms", happiest students, alumni giving, etc...and each department can be ranked. Number of graduates persuing doctorates, most % to med or law school, biggest endowment, least debt load, etc.....the lists go on forever, and it depends on which list you look at and what things you value.

On my first post I mentioned in my ECs that I was founder of the debate club, I didn't mean at my school, I meant at a summer program I attended this summer. I organized a debate club in order to discuss pertinent medical controversies in the news today, such as Euthanasia (end of life issues), confidentially, abortion and the AIDS epidemic. I explained this on my application but I just wanted to clarify. I'm not a part of my school debate club but at Bucknell I plan to be a part of the political organizations on campus. I know the conservative club is very active but does anyone know anything about the Bucknell Democrats?

Also I was wondering has anyone had an overnight at Bucknell? Before I make my final decision I want to have an overnight there. If I called the admissions office, would they be able to set me up with someone to stay with???

Also what is the difference between Bucknell and Lehigh? Those are the two schools Im choosing between... does anyone know?

My son is very active in Young Democrats. They did a lot with the election this year, and the campus did bipartisan voter registration. PM me for his email if you'd like to contact him about YD. They are always looking for new folks. And they also have a paper "All That's Left" to balance out the BUCC and their "Counterweight." There is debate at Bucknell--informal club, they do parli debate and travel to other schools.

I would contact the school about overnights. They should be set up through their office. Ask for someone who would have similar interests.

As for the difference between Lehigh and Bucknell, I can't really speak to that. I know that a lot of people apply to both, and Lehigh is also strong in engineering but slightly larger.

HCASPER, I did two overnight stays at Bucknell in the fall and I'm doing one next weekend in fact. The first time I just called the admissions office and they were very friendly and helpful and set me up with a student. The second time I stayed with a friend and I found that much more fun. And then next week, I'm staying with another friend. But def. stay overnight, you'll get a better feel for the school. The admissions office does everything for you so you don't have to worry about it.

well I hope that was helpful, probably not, but oh well. haha.

P.S. PLEEEEEEAAASEE go to Bucknell next year!

Bucknell was the first college that I visited over a year ago, and it's been my top choice ever since then. Several of my friends who applied and were accepted may also be joining me next year, which could be interesting. As far as the school goes, I have a friend who is a freshman now and I stayed overnight with him in the fall. I went to an intramural flag football game (those are big there), a math class, and a biology lecture. The lecture itself only comprised of no more than fifty kids I'd say, and I liked that. The campus is awesome too. It's definitely my top choice, and if the financial aid is enough, then I'm definitely going there next year. Hope to see you all there.

dmband37 please go to bucknell! that would make my life, b/c i checked ur little profile thing and it says you work at CVS. LOL. As do I! I'm telling you, it's a sign. You HAVE to go to Bucknell.

Haha, I've been working at CVS for a year and 9 months now. I'm actually a decent technician. I'm hoping to transfer my job to the CVS down the street from the school. And you don't have to worry, if the financial situation works out, I'm definitely going to Bucknell! And by the way, I'm glad I could make your life, LOL.

Oh my God,NO WAY! I was going to transfer as well. LOL. I'm a photo technician and although we're sort of against the pharmacy in general, I could make an exception. I mean you seem pretty darn cool. I've been working there for... 1 year 5 months...a little less. But hey, CVS is the place to be, ya heard?

I've stayed over at Bucknell twice. The first time I stayed with my friend in his dorm. The next time I went to see him, I stayed in his frat house, which was surprisngly nice on the inside. The frat parties there are so much fun, they had an 80's cover band both times I went. Bucknell's my second choice after BC, but right now I'm waitlisted at both. I actually find out where I am on Bucknell's waitlist today (crosses fingers).

"hey is anyone else who got accepted to Bucknell thinking about going pre-med? does anyone know about the Bucknell pre-med program because i'm am planning on being premed... I know they don't have a specific major for it. but can anyone tell me about the program?"

I second what HCASPER asked. Anyone have any info?

go to that page and select a major. They have contacts listed under each. There is Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, etc...
