Bucknell programs

Hey all, I’m a current junior at a small high school about 3 hours from Bucknell. It’s one of my top choices, I plan on visiting this summer. I was wondering if anybody could comment on their Political Science department, which would be my major, and also they Theater program-i’m interested in a theater minor. Thanks in advance

i was planning on majoring in political science for a while but had to drop it when i decided to graduate in three years. the classes i did take were all quite impressive, however... though all in different ways.

my foundation seminar was taught by a polisci prof and looked at political psychology through the lens of utopian and dystopian novels (the course has changed slightly now that a new prof is teaching it). we also took a look at political advertising and had to construct our own campaign commercials.... great and varied reading list (marx, freud, rand, skinner, bellamy, huxley, et cetera) and a fun class.

the second course i took was international politics. this was taught by a visiting professor and had an ENORMOUS reading load... at least 5000 pages (of academic writings) for the semester. it was definitely a lot of work (you only had to read all of it if you wanted an 'a'), but everyone obviously learned a lot. i have a friend at another school who is actually majoring in international politics and i think i learned more in that one course than he has in three years. my evidence: he still comes to me when he has a question.

the third (and final) class i was able to take was political theory with michael james. it was quite good as well, though im a sucker for people who learn classical greek so they can read plato correctly. im also a sucker for people who dont cancel class despite their houses getting completely flooded by the remnants of hurricanes named ivan. definite bonus points in my book. but really, a good class... though nothing that really stands out. smart guy, good sense of humor, good teacher.

as for theater, i know one person who took a survey theater course and didnt particularly enjoy it. however, i know several people in the dance half of the department and they absolutely love it... id expect the actual theater majors to feel the same way.
