Bucknell v. Penn State Schreyer

Honestly, I am not sure if you can generalize the entire Penn State faculty based on the 1 or 2 classes that you took. You're still in high school. Let's leave the judgment of professors to the people that are in college. I think the students actually attending the school would have a better idea of the quality of the professors. If I want the review of a good AP US History teacher, I'll ask you. Personal note? Yes, I do take a certain offense to you claiming that the Bucknell student body is better than the students at Penn State. How can you even compare the two? Our incoming class is probably bigger than Bucknell. You seem to have your mind made up. Your comments obviously give away your preference, for whatever reason, for Bucknell. You came on here and said, “However, Bucknell has a better campus, smaller classes, better professors, and has better students than PSU as a whole.” Bucknell is a good school, but don't come on here trying to build up Bucknell by tearing down Penn State University Park. I am not going to try to sway your decision or beg you to come, as we already have a waitlist full of people wanting to come, but rather I am going to ask that you quickly inform Penn State that you aren't coming so that another person on the waitlist can get accepted. There are a lot of people that would have loved that spot in Schreyer. I am disappointed in the admissions office. I wish that they had given it to someone that was not going to turn it down for a simple regular Bucknell acceptance.

I can't even believe this is a discussion! Penn State, main campus or otherwise, is nowhere even close to the caliber of Bucknell. It must be a matter of money, or else EVERYONE would choose Bucknell. Be honest with yourselves. I understand that money is a major factor in choosing a college, but in comparing the two PSU is an elementary school compared to Bucknell. Just look at your high school track record, no matter what your age. At least 20% of your class attended PSU whereas maybe 1% would be accepted to Bucknell. I wish you the best of luck wherever you decide but if both are options, Bucknell is the only choice.

The poster "Ashlieh" obviously went to college for the social aspect which is a ridiculous reason to attend college. Please choose based on curriculum, opportunity to thrive and future job positions. THON as a reason- are you kidding me? "My parents sent me to school to dance all night" I'm sure they'd be so proud:)

triath32,

I have to disagree with your comments. First of all, I'm only a high school senior. I will be going to Penn State though. Second of all this isn't ordinary Penn State. It is Penn State's Honors College. This honors college is one of the best in the country. Approximatley 2400 people applied to Penn State's Honors College this year and about 800 got accepted. That would put the acceptance rate at about the same of Bucknell.

I had a 4.0 unweighted GPA in high school taking all honors and ap classes. Do you even know what THON is? It is a yearlong fundraising effort to raise money for kids with cancer (Hershey 4 Diamonds Fund), yes there is a 46 hour dance marathon as part of it. It raised $6.6 million dollars this past year alone. It is way more than a dance marathon. I chose Penn State because they are among the top in what I am studying. The social aspects just happen to be a benefit.

I have to apologize, in no way was I taking away from all that the PSU IFC/Panellenic Organization accomplishes. Clearly the work they do is unprecedented in their scope. Ashlieh, I hope PSU isn't reading your post as it seems you are putting down "ordinary Penn State"! Good luck in the fall, the world awaits! BTW, I'm a 1998 Cornell grad so between Bucknell or PSU, Cornell is clearly the smarter choice! heehee I was just browsing and saw this discussion and thought I had to interject as it seemed to me a no-brainer:)

Nobody cares about your degree from Cornell. I am actually appalled by the stupidity of several of your comments. Penn State is by no means an elementary school. When did the acceptance rate have ANYTHING to do with the quality of the education that you are receiving. University of Puerto Rico has an %18 acceptance rate. I think it's just been a while since you have been in college. I hate to be the one to tell you, but things change a lot in a decade. It's humorous that you now have to comb through threads on college confidential 10 years out from school while you try to fish for compliments. Cornell is the red headed step-child degree of the Ivy League. There's a reason that people keep throwing themselves off of the bridge at Cornell. Go try to play king of the mountain with some people that actually think you measure up. heehee:)

^You totally sounded like Stewie Griffin...nice.

yeah, they probably chose PSU over BU because of money. For someone accusing people of throwing out ‘factless opinions’ you sure dont hold back yours. Its all based on what you want, and I am a small school guy so I would absolutely say Bucknell. And even if you are a big school person BU’s campus blows PSU out of the water. Little to no comparison. Idk much about schreyers but I am pretty damn sure the smaller classes are too. JEC, just please get your bias, ignorant ******** off of this site. Almost sounds like you have a case of sour grapes to me.

Bucknell enrolls a significantly wealthier group of students. Smaller school, more $$ spent per student, easier access to administration/resources. In terms of academic caliber and student ability, it is around the same level as PSU Schreyer.

With regard to Goldman(which was mentioned earlier), they don’t target either campus.

jec7483, there is no need to try to portray the nation’s #1 party school(PSU) as some kind of intellectual mecca. it’s not. there are brilliant students there, but they are definitely atypical.

Uh, folks, this is a three year old thread.

It’s actually a 7 year-old thread. Use old threads for research only, but do not resurrect. Closing.
