Hello, does anyone know which of these college has the best psychology programs? bucknell and Lafayette is more selective i think but I want to know which one has best reputation. I want to pursue a doctorate clinical psychology program after under grad.
My D graduated from Lafayette with a BS in psychology and had a wonderful experience. She had a number of professors she really loved (and is still in sporadic touch with a couple of her profs years after graduation). She did research projects with three different psych professors (including two summers on campus doing research) one of which culminated in a paper being published in a peer reviewed journal. She had amazing results for grad school (not in psychology). Overall she loved Lafayette – I feel that the college has found the “magic formula” whereby students are challenged academically but still have time to pursue ECs, research, social events etc. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
We also looked at Dickinson and Bucknell and they are both excellent colleges. You can get where you want from all three schools. It is a matter of finding your best fit (including affordability if it is an issue). My D found Bucknell a bit too oriented towards Greek Life and the location a bit isolated for her tastes. She liked Dickinson but didn’t like a road that cuts across campus (not important really but it bothered her) and felt it was not as science oriented as Lafayette which was something she was looking for (she pursued a BS at Lafayette and took six science courses while there).
Bucknell is by far the best out of the other two! I would go with Bucknell if your looking to go pre-professional. However, if your looking to become like a teacher or something than go for fit
