Hello everyone, I would just like to address some concerns some prospective students have. I am not a current student at Bucknell but I am part of the incoming class of 2020. I will be attending this fall. Most people worry about committing to Bucknell because of the party scene. I got a taste of what it’s like. Bucknell’s Greek System is actually very unique in that it combines the traditional parties with a lot of campus events. Fraternity and sorority relations are extremely strong at the school. It’s not divided or super cliquey. Some frats have really nice houses and some frats are known for their crazy parties. For people who don’t drink, there isn’t really any pressure to drink. I was asked at the Super Saturday I attended and the frat party I went to if I wanted to drink. They don’t force it on you. Another valid point is that Bucknell has an organization called ACE which throws TONS of non-alcoholic events. The people who complain about Bucknell’s party scene do not look for non alcoholic opportunities. There’s always something to do if you search for it. Don’t cross Bucknell off your list because of the parties. It is an amazing school and most people are super friendly there and inclusive. Frats are exclusive to freshmen, but that’s just tradition. Super Saturday’s are open to everyone and it’s a great way to meet new people.
Well it’s nice to read something other than negative stuff about how Greeks control the social life at Bucknell. I do think the school is “work hard, play hard” but there are definitely things to do if you don’t drink. It’s probably more difficult if you do want to go to a party now and then and not be a tee totaler 100% of the time.
