I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I have looked and could only find the thread where everyone bashed Rutgers. So anyway, I'm a HS senior from NJ and looking to go to college in NJ as well. My choices are TCNJ, Rutgers and NJIT.

From the Rutgers thread I mentioned, it seems like the college got hurt a lot from the recent budget cuts. Still, the engineering school (the one I hope to apply to) doesn't seem like it was targetted for any major changes. Despite the money problems that Rutgers is facing, it is still a top notch university and very affordable as well (even with the increased tuition).

I am not aware of any major problems with TCNJ after the budget cuts, so if anyone knows, I'd be very interested to hear about it. Same goes for NJIT. If Rutgers was hurt very badly, then I can imagine these smaller colleges would be hurt even more. Correct me if I'm wrong.

So anyone who knows something about this issue, please post and enlighten us all.

I just wanted to comment that I don't find our instate schools very affordable. There are states that do have a good deal for instate sudents, but sadly NJ is not one of them.

Just wanted to say that engineering is very good at Rutgers. I assume that this is a major that you are interested in, and if so, good luck with your application to Rutgers.

Here's a link from the TCNJ website about the College's reaction to the budget cuts: http://www.tcnj.edu/~ccr/news/2006/budget/TCNJReactstoStateBudgetCuts.html.
I'm going to be a freshman at TCNJ in the fall so can't possibly talk about the actual differences between "before" and "after" the cuts. I know that they closed down the College for a couple Fridays to save energy and money, but as far as how the life on campus will be affected, I do not know. Merit scholarships are not based solely on your rank and SAT scores anymore (same goes for Rutgers) and you have to put more work to get anything (write essays).

Which means they will be giving out less money overall, which in my view makes them less attractive options
