im applying to cal from the east coast...although my mom is very against my going there if i get in...she's concerned, among other things, about the budget cuts having a direct impact on my quality of education there.

what can you tell me about how the budget cuts will affect my education? is it a mistake to go to cal now?

The budget cuts at Berkeley are very serious. The freshman package was recently reduced from a Ferrari Enzo, 12 blonde models and a lifelong supply of Red Bull Light, Trojan F&I and joints to a Ferrari Enzo, 11 blonde models and a 10 year long supply of Red Bull, Trojan F&I and joints. I knew I should have gone to Stanvardton :(

I’ve been here 3 years and I can’t really think of anything I care about that has been changed because of budget cuts. The fees have been raised to make up for the budget cuts and are being raised more - that is what most of the complaining has been about, not because of actual differences in the quality of education.

Since you’re out of state, I don’t think your tuition will be affected at all. Berkeley’s also accepting more out of state kids now, so your chances of getting in will be higher. I don’t see how coming here could be a mistake for you.

I think it’s more of the bureaucratic stuff that’s been affected. Like class sizes are getting smaller (people used to complain about classes being too big, and now they’re complaining about them being too small … just kidding it really sucks when you don’t get into your classes) because they can’t afford GSIs, etc. But I really don’t think the actual quality of education is being affected. It’s not like Berkeley’s going to start hiring subpar professors and grad students.

size per section is still the same. it’s how many sections there are that is getting smaller, which causes the problem. Speaking of which phase 2 is coming up and I totally forgot about it. ****.
