<p>BUICK</a> Achievers Scholarship Program</p>

<p>"DEDICATION. EFFORT. ACCOMPLISHMENT.</p>

<p>Applicants must:</p>

<pre><code>* Be high school seniors or graduates or be current undergraduate students
* Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university for the entire 2012–13 academic year (excluding proprietary and online schools)
* Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study. See the list of eligible majors.
* Be interested in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries
* Be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States

<p>Excluded from consideration are employees and relatives of employees of Scholarship Management Services, Scholarship America and their affiliates and subcontractors, and GM Foundation Directors, Officers, and staff and their relatives. Although GM employees are not eligible, relatives of General Motors employees are eligible."</p>

<p>Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:</p>

* Participation and leadership in community and school activities, work experience and interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industry
* Please note special consideration will be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of military personnel

<p>The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in Engineering/Technology fields.</p>

<p>Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. All scholarship recipients may be subject to a criminal background check. Recipients of a Buick Achievers Scholarship shall not commit any act that indicates dishonesty or moral turpitude or that otherwise could materially injure the General Motors Foundation, Buick or General Motors Company's reputation. If such an act is committed by a Buick Achievers Scholarship Program recipient, the Buick Achievers Scholarship award shall immediately be revoked. In no instance will any Director or Officer of the General Motors Foundation or any employee of General Motors play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final."</p>

<p>Anyone think they can make a ballpark estimation as to how many people apply for that scholarship?</p>

<p>Also, any idea as to when we will be notified of winning or losing?</p>

<p>The First Four were already notified. Have not heard about when they plan on sending notifications for the rest. No idea how many applied.</p>

<p>If I were a betting man, I would say 10,000 applicants. Give or take a couple thousand.</p>

<p>Based on the forum for the scholarship back in 2011, yes. Everyone gets notified by late April, 2012 about their scholarship status.</p>

<p>4 down, 96 more left to get up to $25,000. I’m wishing the best for everyone</p>

<p>I hear you. I’m banking on this scholarship. If I don’t get it, I can’t go to HPU due to cost. I need this up to 25k. Patience is a virtue, hang in there kid.</p>

<p>I’m waiting to hear back from so many scholarships at this point. It stinks because I have to commit before I’ll hear back from them.</p>

<p>I am soooo nervous for this!! This is pretty much my basis for choosing a college =/ soo nervous!!! i hope they send this out soon!
Although…I’m trying to keep my hopes really low and imagining going to the college that wasn’t really an option for me…just so it doesn’t come as a bad surprise to me… lol</p>

<p>Does anyone have any idea when “the end of April” will be? Like will it truly be the end of April on the 30th, or something sooner like the 20th??</p>

<p>Last year, most of the kids heard back within a two day span - the 26th to the 27th</p>

<p>I emailed them and they replied back today saying that in 7-10 days, provisional recipients and non-recipients should be receiving an email. </p>

<p>“Within a week to ten days the provisional recipients and nonrecipients will be notified by email.”</p>

<p>Provisional meaning what exactly?</p>

<p>Your are first selected on a provisional basis, and asked to provide additional information such as a transcript to verify infomation on your application. Those who are selected for the larger awards (upt to 25K) will probably need to provide tax information to verify income on application for verification. Selectees will be notified and after requested info is sent in, final notifications will go out at a later date to those who are actual recipients of the awards.</p>

<p>I got the email from the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program on the 20th. And I cannot believe that I am a provisional National winner! This was one of the scholarships I never thought about ever winning, even just the $2000 award, so it was a complete and amazing surprise. Congrats to both National and regular (but still extraordinary) winners!! :slight_smile: </p>

<p>Now I just have to get my transcripts, tax forms, and resume verified</p>

<p>I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS to those of you who have received positive notification. This scholarship was awarded for the first time last year and as a recipient of the national award, all I can tell you is WHAT A BLESSING. The scholarship service has made this a very EASY process. The college I am attending is on a learning curve with this one, though. They are not used to having such a generous offer wipe out things like work study and loans completely. : ) If you have questions, please feel free to ask. The criteria is SLIGHTLY different this year than last in that the 3.0 GPA must be maintained to retain the award. And ANY scholarships you reported are what reduce the award. So if you reported you already had 10,000 in scholarships and your school cost 30,000, for example, Buick would award you 20,000. Each school has a figure they use which is “allowable” for room, board, fees, expenses, books, etc. Say for example my school says it costs 30,000 to go there, then they have a buffer built in, say 35,000 is “allowable” for them to show. It all works out beautifully. For those of you NEW to the scholarship game, tuition/fees are NOT taxable, but room/board, supplies, and other misc. monies in scholarship form ARE! So be prepared on that one. HAVE FUN and enjoy your great news!</p>
