Bulldog Days 2006 Inquiry

Does anyone have early information on the visit?
I need to make my flight plans a bit early so I can coordinate it with other visits.
What time should I plan to arrive on Monday the 17th (or Tuesday the 18th)? and do I have to leave on Wednesday, or can I leave on Thursday morning?
Do we have to arrange our own transportation to/from the airport?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Bulldog Days (April 17–19, 2006)

In the coming months, you will have many opportunities to become more familiar with the Yale community. Bulldog Days, a multi-day event designed specifically for admitted students, is a great way to delve deeper into the Yale experience.

Arriving on campus Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, you will find campus life carrying on quite normally. You will be able to attend classes, walk through the libraries, work out at the gym, and eat in residential college dining halls. What makes Bulldog Days special, however, is that your schedule will be packed with events designed specifically for future Yalies like yourself. You'll have the opportunity to see some of the best performance groups on campus work their magic, take tours custom-fitted to your interests, and sit in on panel discussions about life at Yale. You will also have the opportunity to stay with an actual Yale student, someone who once faced the same decision as you now do and who is eager to tell you why he or she chose Yale and what the experience has been like. Furthermore, there will also be over 800 other admitted students on campus for Bulldog Days; there's no better way to see what your time at Yale will be like than by meeting some of your peers. Beyond this, you'll have access to the professors, administrators, coaches, and students who bring this campus to life.

Your experience will hardly be enough to catch up on Yale's three hundred years of history, but we can guarantee that Bulldog Days will provide an excellent start. Simply put, Bulldog Days is the best chance you'll have to experience Yale until... well, until you enroll next Fall. On this site, you will find the Online Registration Form, the Schedule of Events, as well as transportation information. So, mark your calendar today, tell your parents, register online and finalize those travel plans.

We look forward to seeing you this April!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to come to Bulldog Days? What if I can't come?
While Bulldog Days is a great chance to become more familiar with the Yale community, attendance is entirely optional. If you cannot visit us on April 17, 18, or 19, please contact bulldog@yale.edu to set up another time and date to come to New Haven and experience Yale! Tours, information sessions, overnight stays and other programs can be arranged.

May I come late?
Late arrival is definitely an option. Registration will be open from 4pm to 11pm on Monday and all day on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you are coming late, please indicate that when you Register Online and then come to Dwight Hall on Old Campus to pick up your information packet.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. Bulldog Days is entirely free! If costs for transportation are a concern, you should try to plan your travel as soon as possible. Dining hall food will be free, but you might want to bring some spending money for New Haven shops and eateries.

Why is it called Bulldog Days?
The Bulldog (Yale's mascot) inspires the sense of pride and admiration that Yalies feel for their school. Bulldog Days is a chance for admitted students to explore Yale, meet current Yalies, and begin to feel a bit of that pride themselves.

Where will I stay?
Those who attend Bulldog Days will stay in the suite of a current Yale student. These students have volunteered to be hosts, and are eager to tell about their Yale experience.

What should I bring?
We leave it up to you to decide what to pack for a two-day, one-night stay at Yale. Popular items include: sleeping bag and pillow, spending money, a jacket of some sort, an upbeat attitude and the classic Yale-student enthusiasm. Looking at the schedule and the local weather forecast would be a good way to decide on what to wear. Yale gear is always a good option.

Thanks a bunch! I have only received my likely letter, so I had no idea about the admitted students' site, and wasn't having any luck with the yale site on my own.

Wow....I want in so badly.

This thread makes me cry. xP

This thread violates the 8th amendment's "cruel and unusual punishment" clause.

I concur. Wah.

This thread, coupled with the thread about record matriculation after EA, makes me want to die! :(

I so want in to Yale...so, so badly!!!

My son (he's a Sophmore this year) knew someone and went up on Saturday when BDD came around and stayed overnight with some friends of the friend he knew from school. He stayed with a host student on Monday night, came home Tuesday.

If you can go, do so. My son had visited a few schools prior to going up to visit Yale. He thought he'd like the other schools, but when he got there he didn't. I thought it was important enough for him to go to BDD and miss school the first time in his life. What he thought about the other schools, I wanted to make sure he wouldn't feel the same about Yale.

He wasn't on campus for even a half hour when he called me and said "Mom, I'm home, this is it!" He knew from the moment he stepped on campus that Yale was the right place for him and boy, was he right! He loves Yale, he loves New Haven, loves his roomies and all the friends he's made.

So, if you can go, please go and have a great time!!!!

I made the "mistake" of going to BDD last year with my son. After dropping him off with his host, I didn't see him again until it was time to fly home. He had so much fun and made so many friends instantly.

I explored New Haven on my own, but I really should have just stayed home.

ahhhhhhhhh this thread is pure torture. I want to get in SO bad!!! My birthday is the 16th, maybe yale will consider it a birthday present to me?? (hey, I can dream...)

Mine's May 9th. I think I should get a gift, too.

I'm crossing my fingers for all of you guys!

AnotherMom2009,

I disagree. W and I went with D last year and had a great time with her until she met her host and then explored both Yale and New Haven on our own afterwards.

Check the schedule - the incoming students don't meet their host(s) until late afternoon at the end of the 1st full day. We spent most of the 1st day with D on a number of tours and having an extended lunch. The tour of Payne Whitney Gymnasium was very interesting. Dean Salovey's Welcome Address was for both parents and students.

After we left D, it was back to the hotel and then we walked around checking out restaurants for dinner. The next day we went to the British Museum and the Peabody Museum.

We enjoyed it and it was fun to meet D after she cut loose from her host to hear 1st hand her reactions to the whole experience.

Clearly it's up to individual tastes, but we enjoyed BDD.

Get here for the Diversity Dinner and leave Thursday morning.
There's definitely a lot to see. Getting here early/leaving late lets you see what we Yalies are like on normal days.

I actually plan on doing just that! Thanks for the advice, edmYale09.

I agree that attending BDD is up to each individual parent. However, if money is an issue and parents had to choose between BDD and Parents' Weekend, I would recommend Parents' Weekend.

Although I didn't see my son at all during BDD, I must admit I enjoyed exploring New Haven. I even stopped a cop on the street and asked about safety issues. Everyone was friendly and New Haven just felt like home.
