my sat score composite dropped 50 points and im incredibly bummed out. i cant get into my top school with a score like this. i do have backups, but my top school is the perfect school for me i just cant get in. i feel if i take it again i wont score any higher.
im considering transferring from a local college (ill take 1-2 years of class there) or taking a gap year or two working full time making 10+ per hour then saving $$$ for college.
ugh, just so bummed out. not even sure i want to go to college anymore - nothing seems to be the right “fit”. its been a rough day. that being said, you dont have to reply to this i just needed an outlet. sorry if this is silly
ACT scores release soon, hopefully that makes me feel better better.
Ah, I’m so sorry.
The best advice I can offer is some time-- and ice cream therapy. Hot fudge if you’re really feeling down.
Give yourself a day or two for a pity party. Then, on Thursday, make an appointment with your guidance counselor and pick up the pieces.
What is “perfect” about your top choice? What does it have that others don’t?
Having looked at many colleges I find that many in the same category are very similar…your Big State Us, your liberal arts colleges.
You would have to study more and change how you are studying to improve your SAT score. Have you done that?
Also you may have to realize that schools is just not in the cards for you…what other choices do you have?
Not going to college will not be beneficial to you in the long run…there are 3000 colleges in the US…there are some that will fit.
@bopper Yep, I even got a tutor and did 50 points worse. Not to mention my ACT scores i was looking forward to may not release because of an issue at the testing center. Maybe i just shouldn’t apply anywhere early action… doesn’t seem like anything is working out for me.
OK, Deep breaths.
It seems that maybe your “top school”:is more of a reach than you care to admit.
There are a zillion schools out there. (OK, slight hyperbole. As bopper said, there are about 3,000 in the US.) A good dozen are probably a perfect fit for you in terms of your major, your scores, your finances, and everything else you’re looking for in a college.
It’s Saturday morning- beautiful weather here on Long Island. Why don’t you take your laptop/tablet/phone outside, and generate a list of schools other than that “top school” that will take you as you are? The one you’re fixed on is NOT perfect for you if your scores won’t get you in.
Not applying anywhere EA isn’t a fix. EA or regular admissions, you still need schools that will accept you as you are, and where you can live and learn and grow for 4 years.
You’ve heard the saying: There’s a lid for every pot. Spend today finding yours.
^ Excellent great advice above by @bjkmom . Stop lamenting your scores, buck up by studying and do better next time. Try to write essays that are gramatically correct that include capitalizations and are expressive of you. You can do it!
@1Tiger21 Thank you, I think I won’t take it again though because it’s past the deadline for the October registration and that’s the last one that can be used for EA. I honestly don’t think that I could do better if I take it again - even if I studied, because I had a tutor and studied nearly every day yet did worse. I read somewhere that it’s very likely to do worse if you got above a 1350 which I did. So it’s okay.
Sometimes instead of trying to change your scores to match a college, you have to find a college that matches your scores.
Honestly – it isn’t a perfect college for you if you are likely to be near the bottom of your class and would struggle academically. No matter how great the social scene or majors offered or location or sports or whatever are, it isn’t a perfect school if you have to struggle too much with peers who are better prepared.
