I have a couple of questions.
I signed up for the L&S Discovery course C160V, also knows as Psych C162.
I was wait-listed for some reason, although there are plenty of space.
How are some people enrolled while others are not?

Also, I screwed up and phase II'ed Chem 1a. So I ended up on the waitlist for this as well. If I'm in the 40s on the wait-list, do you think it's possible to get in?
I don't absolutely need to take it since I passed the chem AP, but I want to get a feel for berkeley chem, seeing as i'm planning to be a chem major.

If anyone could address these two questions, I'd really appreciate it.

Chem majors take chem 4a, at least if you want the B.S. I’m not sure if the B.A. needs chem 1a.

Chem 1a, should be ok, as long as you get into the lab, you’re good to go. Last year I didn’t sign up for the class til 2nd week of school.

As regarding to psych 162, it could be that the professor doesn’t enroll some students, freshs and sophs, until few weeks into school year.

Psych C162 has restrictions by category. The one that is full is “new students and students with class level of junior”. This makes it sound like the system thinks you are an entering transfer student. On the other hand, if you signed for a discussion section that is full, even if the main lecture still has openings, you will be on the waitlist for both. The solution to the latter problem is to shift to an open discussion section.

Seats have been reserved for:

Instructor Approval; a Class Entry Code is required to enroll in these seats. (Open)

Students with a major of Psychology and Students with a class level of Senior or Junior or Sophomore (Open)

Students with a class level of Freshman or Sophomore (Open)

Students with a registration status of new and Students with a class level of Junior (Full)

Open seating (Open)

I also see that there are seats open if registering under Psych C162 but there are fewer total slots in the completely full L&S C160V in spite of it being the same class. Register under the Psych CCN not the L&S one. Same time, same location, same instructor, same topic, but different CCNs with different registration totals.

I’m a chem major in L&S, so it’ll be a B.A.
So I guess i’m not in such a bad position for chem 1a then?

@rider730, i registered under psych c162. no difference. and i’m an incoming freshman. what gives?

Lol. rider730 another long post. But this time it’s not as useful (no offense).

Anyway, the reason why you keep getting waitlisted for the class no matter what you do is because the waitlists are processed manually by the department. For those discussion sections that are full, the waitlists aren’t full, and therefore you can get on the waitlist. For the sections that aren’t full, the waitlists ARE full and since the department controls the waitlists, those people on the waitlists aren’t getting in the class automatically (meaning during the weekend). What I would do is keep checking when they get bumped into the class and when that happens, put yourself switch into that section. Hope that made sense…
