Bunk Beds: Do or do not?

First off, let me say I reallllly do not want to climb in bed every night, so there would be no way I would do bunk beds if I had to be on top. But, if I could be on bottom, do you think it is worth it? I'd imagine it opens up a good amount of space but now there would only be storage space under one bed and not two.

And if not bunking, what other bed patterns are good for a 10x12 double. I have heard an L along the walls really maximizes space while not having to bunk.

Any opinions appreciated.

EDIT: Not to mention any movement in bed is felt by both parties.. and I have a girlfriend who I won't see too much.. so when she visits...................

If you do the "L" style, then you'll have to put a one desk under the top bed. I wouldn't opt for that because then you've got all the furniture crammed into one corner. It would make me feel cramped up, but that's just me. My roomie and I have already decided that the beds will be bunked and I'm on the bottom for at least the 1st semester. I wanted the bottom because I'm also not crazy about the height. I would also probably hit my head on the ceiling regularly, because I'm a somewhat clutzy girl of 5ft 7". The down side of having the bottom is that my bed will probably become guests' sitting place. Oh well, I don't really care.

avoid bunking. if you are worried that you feel cramped if they are not bunked, remember you arent gonna spend that much time in your room anyways. with regards to your girlfriend visiting, make sure you clear her staying over with your roommate before hand, just to be polite. Oh and dorms are supposed to feel cramped, they are not luxury apartments.

I wouldn't want to bunk my beds, i need my own space, i wouldn't want my roommate's bed right under/on top of mine. that's just me though.

My uncle had bunk beds when he was at college.
He and his roomie went out one night, got trashed, then came home and went to bed (he had the top bunk). In the middle of the night, he peed in his sleep.

And that is why I won't bunk.

lol, good story KK. im not gonna bunk cause the top bunk sux and my roomie would make me up there one semester.

I also heard of this from my friend's mother:

She was on the bottom bunk and her drunk roommie and her bf started having drunken sex on the top bunk. I heard it wasn't so pleasant. I mean at least if the bed was so close to gether, you might be able to ignore it... and then they were also caught having sex in various other places of the room (the closet for example)

uyulove - i have heard similar stories. so....the moral of the story is...no bunkbeds
